  • Seems it's all just a matter of making it work - though I'm not sure if Grant Petersen is really considered kosher around here.

  • The SRAM site suggests that the long cage (which this is) will work with 10-42 cassettes, though we'll have to see if that's the case I guess.

  • one of those might be useful, if it doesn't work by itself

  • Cheers! Though looking at that it would appear 10-42 isn't supported with it unfortunately.

Old mate here appears to be running the same derailleur with a 10-42 cassette also.

  • Cx1 long cage derailleur will do 42. Installed on a customer bike and works a charm

  • Delivery!

This is good, except my order from Race View Cycles in Ireland (placed on December 23rd) arrived without the right shifter and a note that basically said "WHOOPS SORRY LOL OUT OF STOCK" despite what the website said at the point of order. I even called them early January to check on the order status as I'd received no dispatch email and nothing was mentioned about an out of stock item. Had I known I would have ordered the shifter from elsewhere. Anyway, not the best experience with that retailer.

  • Update:

I've been building the bike myself with guidance and excellent tools provided by a friend. Front wheel is taking longer to build so we cracked on with everything else in the meantime.

Loads of stack at the moment which will likely be reduced one I work out positioning. Waiting on some compressionless cable outer for the disc brakes and bar tape, then the build should be completed this week (along with about 200 other forum Wolverine projects!).

  • Finally got the front wheel back and made the thing rideable. Shitty pictures before I get the bar Brooks bar tape on. The back wheel had a patched tube which got hot and farted out its air supply (Australia problems), hence the oddly small look to the back end.

Rode it home from the workshop and it felt really very good. Heavy but extremely comfortable/stable, and will probably improve once I get it running tubeless. The TRP Spyres with compressionless cabling are great too. Stack will remain as is for now as it feels pretty much where I need it. Looking forward to giving it a proper shakedown now.

  • Looks great! Would love to see some proper pics once you've got everything dialled in.

What's the weight? I'm worried mine is gonna be a total tank once its ready :|

  • enough spacers?!

where is the upside down straya shot?

  • Thanks! For sure, I'm looking at rack options as well as a Supernova front and rear light so once they're on I'll take some better pictures. I didn't actually get a chance to weigh but it's gotta be around 11.5kg as it is right now. It feels very lively though!

What brakes are going on yours btw?

  • I'm pushing 30 now mate, gotta take care of the ol' back! Might drop the bars for faster gravel rides but for now it works. Anyway, stop mocking me or I'll develop a complex!

  • Ah, still a pup! Lose some spacers, do some yoga, job done.

  • Read that in Ozzy Man's voice. Can't say for sure why...

  • You aren't helping with this complex ;)

Srsly tho, the lack of a sloping top tube and the stem I chose mean that spacers are a must. I've spent the last few years riding around on a lo pro so the almost level bar/saddle feels amazing.

  • Heading away on a tour of Tasmania on Sunday so a few minor tweaks have been made. Namely, I've had the wheels set up tubeless and a smaller chain ring for when the hills get nasty, and wrapped the Brooks tape (pain in the arse).

Love these tyres tubeless, and only had one of them lose pressure quite soon after mounting it. Took it off and used the @edscoble throw it at the floor method suggested and it worked a treat. Now to get it on the plane with some pressure in both tyres.

Waiting on a front rack and the dynamo lights which should hopefully arrive today. Oh and the sexy King Cages.

  • really nice bike, but isn't it a bit too small for you?

  • small? straight seatpost and something like a 100mm stem. seems like the right size

  • Thanks - the size is perfect, though I appreciate at first glance the Wolverine's appear to have a bit of a strange geometry, mostly due to the almost level top tube.

  • That looks amazing. Would love to see some pictures of your trip in Tasmania!

  • That looks so good and I'm sure it'll ride amazingly!

I'm probably going to have the same amount of spacers and that's on the 62cm frame.

Please keep us posted with pics on your Tasmania trip!

  • Cheers y'all! I can confirm it rides like a dream. Gonna have plenty of range now with the new chainring too. Haven't ridden a packed up bike for 18 years so I'm sure it'll be a shock to the legs.

The plan is to make it to the island below by the end of the first day on a 3:30PM ferry. Pictures will be taken

  • Yewwwww. Mental week in Tasmania has come to an end. I've taken an arse load of photos so I'll put more up if people are interested. The Wolverine was really fucking good.
