415mm chainstays, clearance for a 50mm wide tyre with +- 5mm each side, hence no 5800 or 6800 chainset because no space on the outside of the stays.

5800/6800 q= 14? Sora/4700=150. Needed the extra couple mm.

Waiting for me to get a move on...

How did this turn out?

Well, it's no longer on top of the bookcase... When I realised I wasn't going to finish it before the weather turned it got stuck on the back burner. In a couple of weeks I'll have a small place to tinker and it is the first project on the list. After doing up the bathroom, replace the kitchen floor, renew the balcony railing.

Wow! Can’t believe it has been three years... Due to lots of reasons (divorce, selling the house, no workshop, losing my mojo a bit) the frame is still in the same state as it was in the pic on top of my (exes her) bookcase. Plans for the bike have evolved a wee bit as well, more on that in a later post. For now I need to get it to my cousins shed/workshop for finishing the welds. Next step is getting some cablestops replaced/removed and getting the bloody thing painted/powder coated.
TL;DR Frame not finished yet, need to get a move on...

Well... this just happened 😳
I was browsing for a road bike to replace my GT Grade with because two gravel/all-road/gnarmac bikes would be a bit overkill and came across a discounted Volare frameset. I send a message with an offer to the webshop and it was accepted. So in a couple of days it will be delivered to my home in The Hague and I will build it up as quick as possible and the the Grade will be for sale. I thought about keeping it as a winter bike but my apartment is 30 m2 so four bikes in there is a bit crowded...

A list, because lists...
-Frameset: Genesis Volare disc 853
-Groupset: Shimano 105 R7020
-Wheels: Shimano WH-RS370
-Seatpost, stem, bars: Fizik Cyrano R5
-Bartape: Fizik Microtex
-Seat: Fabric Scoop Flat
-Tyres: Schwalbe G-One Speed (if they don’t fit; either Pro-One or GP5000)The frameset should be delivered this afternoon, the wheels just arived, finishing kit and groupset expected in the next few days. Looking forward to building this one up!

It has arived! Popped in the wheels to see what kind of clearance I’m looking at; if the G-Ones measure 30mm it’ll be toight but should work. If they come up bigger...

Build one up before, it's excellent.
Be wary of the hydraulic hosing rattling inside the downtube tho.

Thanks for the heads up, any tips on how to prevent this from happening?

Heat shrink wrap on the housing on the entry/exit port to stop it moving.

Most of the parts are in, though a couple of things like 44t nw-chainring are in storage so I’ll have to make a trip there tomorow.
Tyres fit, it’s toight but there’s more clearance than with the 42x650b on my Grade and I’ve been running them without problems for three years. Logos need to alligned and latex needs to be added. Really like the look of these wheels with the subtle logos, not going to de-sticker them...

Almost finished building it up. Still waiting for an expander jobbie I ordered from my lbs, was back ordered... Need to adjust and bleed the brakes, index the rear derailler, fit sadle and pedals and wrap the bars. Really looking forward to riding it, hope the weather holds.

Almost done; waterbottle and cage will be replaced by something more fitting. Thinking stainless King and pink Rapha. Maybe a 100mm stem instead of the 110mm on there right now. Just came back from a shakedown ride, forgot to fully tighten the seatclamp bolt...

Aaaaaaaaand I’ve finaly pulled my thumb from somewhere and filed the last welds on my custom frame. Far from perfect but I don’t want to file them down further, scared of ruining the welds or the tubing... I’ve got acces to a small powdercoat oven at work, so next week I will coat the frame mouse grey. And then start building it up for the Tuscany Trail.

Tiny update: was getting tattood this morning and I spotted some cool lettering on the wall behind this guys workstation. Commented on the font and why I was looking for something like it and he put down his gun and sketched the lettering for me on the spot.

Thanks! Might powdercoat it tomorow so I’ll take some pics then.

Had a day of today so I went to work and finish the frame. Sanded it with a fine grit paper, taped of the holes where I don’t want any coating, heated up the home made oven (old freezer with heating elements from a regular oven), powdered my frame and baked it for twenty minutes. Put on a powdered primer followed by a mouse grey topcoat.
Next step is sanding the coat, spray on the lettering and logo’s and finishing it with a satin gloss clear coat.

Looks great, keep it up!
Great work!
Can you post some pics of the chainstay/tire clearance? Curious how you fit them in there, also what length chainstays did you end up with?
