I asked before but I didn’t really look into it further.
Looking for a stove for cooking on at the allotment- got a bbq for grilling and a trangia for boiling water but not powerful enough to do a big pan for pasta etc.
wondering if this style of stove is any good? Looks good for both sitting around for cosiness and big pan on top?
Oven capabilities would be a nice to have but I’m guessing we’d need to go all-in for something like that.
Gas and electricity not an option.Cooking meat is absolute bottom of our priority list- chucking out some warmth and general cooking is the goal…

it's quite small. looks like you'd need to feed it kindling mainly.

Yes, it’s essentially a tube rocket stove with a bunch of insulation round it.

What about a solo stove and cooktop? Efficient and burns clean? (They say.. I’ve never cooked on one.) Will be nice for sitting around.

Oooh they look really nice but a bit out of my budget by the time it’s spec’d out. Definitely something to consider though.
My bbq acts as a fire pit, it’s mostly the addition of cooking facilities for pans I’m looking to add. -

I’m doing something wrong with my Weber, it keeps getting cold very quickly
Use chimney starter (3/4 full) until they’re white hot, empty onto one side of the grate
Lid goes on, gets up to around 200, then us basically cold 45 minutes later, temperature drops off quickly
Im left with fairly large lumps that have just stopped producing heat (bad picture attached)
The top vents fully open and bottom ones too (all the way to the right)
The lumpwood is alderline.. but two years old?

If vents are open fully, surely a problem with the fuel source?
-

My guess would be it’s wet inside so it catches but won’t stay burning
Get some new fuel and see how you go.
If that works you should be able to incorporate some of the old stuff with the new -

I had constant problems with my bbq until I started keeping the fuel inside. It wasn't getting rained on, but I think the humidity combined with getting cold overnight was making it damp.

Any creative suggestions for BBQ veg? I love a sweet potato chucked in the coals but looking to broaden my horizons.

I've got a little firebox stove that will very comfortably bring a pot of water to boil burning kindling. Dunno if it will do a massive pot if that's your requirement. I really rate mine.

Buy this book, it's brilliant.

Maybe a book is a good bet actually! Do you know if there's much vegan stuff in there?
-
• #2315
Yeah, there's loads of vegan stuff and a lot of the non vegan stuff just has cheese, yoghurt or honey as part of the recipe so you can easily make it vegan if you want.

Amazing, will order a copy. Thanks!

Good book.

This may do - it's vegetarian, but I've not paid attention to see if it's vegan anywhere

That’s not finished, you need to build a canopy to go over the top to protect it from rain

Blimey Sainsbury's going in on fake BBQ, is this basically pastrami? £13.33 for 1.9 kg of meat is cheap. Also have cherry smoked ribs and a hickory smoke beef platter in same range.

When you take the 700g of liquid it comes packed with off it's actually only 1.2kg of meat sadly.

I made a few bits from here today, really good. Thanks a lot for the recommendation!

Nice, glad you found it useful.
I liked the kebab section especially because once you get you head around what veg works well together on the grill and different sauce ideas you can create loads of variations. Giving veggies and vegans real bbq options rather than just salad options goes down a storm (you usually just have to keep the carnivores off them though)
get a decent size battery pack that can put out 12v and it will run for days.
