Cheers. I think I may keep an eye out for a second-hand one. Not sure if I barbecue enough to justify full price (although I may barbecue more if I had one ...)

That's the one I saw. You can see in that how the Billows is almost pointing upward, but I'm wondering now if a drip pan on the charcoal grate will be enough to deflect the air across to the coals.

That's my thinking. I really like the results I get from the long cooks, but I only managed a couple last year due to time constraints, and we have a baby now, so I have even less time! I'm hoping with a set up like this I can start it off early in the morning and pretty much leave it until dinner, with the alerts etc if something goes wrong.
I also keep thinking, when I see the price, that it's half way toward a KamodoJoe or something, but then I'd probably want this set up on that kind of bbq too!

See this is the exact use case for the masterbuilt gravity....

It didn't seem to affect his temp so I wonder if the fireboard fan works differently? The billows is so quiet the first few times I used it I had to keep touching the fan to check it was still spinning.
and we have a baby now
I have a 10 month old (plus another one coming in May) and it's not an issue, once you've got it all set up you only need to check the meat for basting/spritzing/wrapping etc, it's no more effort than checking an oven, I'm looking after the kiddo all day tomorrow and I plan on smoking some ribs for the evening. The temp is so stable on mine that for longer cooks like pork shoulder I can put it on before I go to bed.
I also keep thinking, when I see the price, that it's half way toward a KamodoJoe or something
I have the costco one, which is the same size as the Big Joe, that and the thermoworks was less than half the price of the big Joe, the big Joe is slightly nicer but it's mental money for no difference in cooking quality imo.
I think the best thing about the different fan controllers is that they work on so many different bbq's, so you just put it on what ever you get next.

I got the starter chimney yesterday. For some reason I'd pictured it as being beer can sized, was a bit surprised when I opened the box!

The full sized ones are pretty big really, a BBQ full. The little one that goes with the Go Anywhere is really handy for starting the handful of coals for a long cook, and being a bit easier to tip.

They look great!

Friday's ribs turned out great, did 2 and had the 2nd for lunch the next day, I'd never reheated ribs before and was happily surprised how good they were.
I'd also been putting a colander wrapped in tin foil over the top vent when it is rained but I finally got round to sorting a proper solution.

Finding replacement grill plates is a pain...
Have a Charbroil performance 3 burner, but neglect has wrecked the porcelain grill plates.Finding replacements aren’t so straight forward, and grillgrates aluminium ones are not quite the right fit.

Just wondering if it will work as an easy option -

I might be down there next weekend if all the start align.
Will look into that for sure.
In the end I’ve bought a pizza oven and someone’s second hand BGE with accoutrements. -

It's not for cooking, it's for a chiminea in the garden. Looking for less faff than the current firelighters, kindling and newspaper approach.

I can highly recommend charred by Genevieve Taylor for vegetarian dishes, can’t wait to get stuck into it this spring and summer.

Being resold on eBay for £550ish
Yes, I think it was drilling a hole in the barbecue. I'll be interested to hear what you go for as I was previously looking at the same thing but never got round to sorting anything.
