Didn't notice that...interesting. I guess they have been made in different years ?

True, but he's going neo-retro, which means more modern.
True I'd put a modern Shimano groupset on it (so to also match the headset) -

Modern, I think.

Damn Late to the game again.
Just RE: Silver Rival - Its a massive ball ache to find (took me a year for me to collect my 2nd groupset) and the shifting is a bit poop compared to 'modern' sram'
He's what it looked like on my ex's similar'ish moser
Im all for a modern groupset, I think silver 105 would be good. (great value too)

Silver 105 with 7400 or 7600 chainset :)

Really useful post, thanks. If only Shimano Ultegra 6800 came in silver. Currently leaning towards Ultegra 6800 or Dura Ace 7800 (with updated levers routing cables under tape) but I need to look into the specs of each. Saying all that still like the idea of Athena 11!

Dura Ace 7800
YES!
-
• #36
If you were determined, you could strip and polish the ultegra...
But DA 7800 is really the good stuff...

Surprisingly hard to find photos of silver 105 5800. But it seems to give the impression that the cranks look like cheapo hub caps

Cranks don't look too bad on bike

Or Ultegra 6750 and swap the 34T ring to something larger?
-
• #40
The shifting won't be as good as 5800 or 6800
-
• #41
It needs DA 7400

YES!
da 7800 would have been my choice too, but then I decided to go for Bugno's team setup (albeit he went Campy himself) -

Great frame and project. I vote silver 5800 for it's great value but get different cranks - 7800 for instance.
-
• #44
Why does everybody like 7800? Ugliest DA gruppo ever imo
-
• #45
2016 is all about functionality and orange paint, isn't it?
Oh and seat post arrived tonight :)
-
• #46
It really is dogshit ugly.
7400 crank + 9000 everything else.

Ugliest DA gruppo ever
dogshit ugly
Hahaha

Silver 105 cranks have a cheap plastic look about them. If your talking pure aesthetics I'd go for Athena 11.
Also think you could pull of black rims and silver stem/seatpost black saddle/tape.
Absolute beaut of a frameset btw.

true, DA7700 would look much better on this

Thanks for all the thoughts on groupsets, sure the debate will continue even after being built up. No pressure! Long term plan is to get an inline expanding post built up, but saw this for £65 so pounced on it as a stop gap.

I think you should put Shimano on it, as per the Chateau d'Ax team, that this was the team bike for.
