  • Apart from probably needing spacers for the rear (135mm), I don't see any others.

  • That's a downside then.

  • This is the old frameset with the shitty dropouts:

Don't buy it (unless you want the hassle of a warranty job later).

  • Ta, thought I read this somewhere on another thread

  • I managed 2xTCRs and a TABR plus a lot of audax and training miles on mine but someone else's let go after a month or so. It's a shit design that leaves very little metal where the replaceable hanger bolts onto. It's why when mine snapped I got a Tripster on warranty instead of another 4S. The new 4S frame has TA dropouts like the Tripster so should have no problems.

So this is a 2018 model, and to be avoided?

    Same pic on Merlin website

  • I don't know what model is called what. The 'latest' model has thru axle rear end, see their site:
    https://www.kinesisbikes.co.uk/Catalogue/Models/Racelight/4S-DISC

Any version earlier than that has normal QR rear end like the picture I posted. These are bad.

  • Does the T3 have the same dropout issues?

  • Yes, thats the 2019 model. The discounted one is 2018

  • I've not heard of any and judging by the pics on the Kinesis site it looks to have far more metal than the 4S does in the break area. Pull the replaceable hanger off and have a look.

  • I presumed so but I hate how the 2019 models of bikes are available for half of 2018 and no one ever knows which bloody version it is.

They don't have any versions on it yet but let's call the one with thru-axle rear the "v2".

  • Any version earlier than that has normal QR rear end like the picture I posted. These are bad.

If this is the same design as the original CX Evo: I have been riding and racing mine for 3 years fine, after a year of it being raced by a team rider 😅

  • Post a pic of your back end (ooh nurse) and I might be able to tell if it's the same as the v1 4S.

  • You sir, are encouragable.

  • Yeah, I'm not a fan of bike things breaking or invoking warranties, usually a day after they expire

  • Thread dredge...

Anybody know the maximum tyre size a Kinesis Grandfondo V2 Ti will take? Kinesis have 28c listed as the max, but I was just wondering if anybody had got anything 30c/32c to fit?

  • Used to run 32s easily on a T3, and that said 28 max.

  • My Aithein Disc is also 28 max and I doubt I could get much bigger in it (in the rear). The brake bridge is slightly too low which is the issue. Obviously all depends on your internal rim width as this will change the profile of the tire. I’m running Vision 55s (19mm internal I think) and GP5000s in 28c. Crap photo but you can see the space here:

  • Maybe the difference is the grand Fondo and T3 both take mudguards and long drop brakes for extra clearance.
Very nice bike by the way!!
    Edit: clearance on 32s

  • That’s a good point!

    Thanks - absolutely loving it.

  • Anyone with a Tripster have an annoying issue where the bolts for the mech hanger are slightly too long and get in the way when dropping out the wheel?

Not a big issue but wondered if it was just me before I play around with bolt length

  • Yes, I've probably posted about it in here or on Twitter. I filed them down so they were flush with the hanger.

  • Ha! Still not improved. Thanks :)

  • Anyone need any Kinesis disc brake mounts or frame bits and pieces? I've got a small collection of Kinesis parts that I've never used or don't need from previous frames. They'll go to a bike charity or bin if no one wants them here.
