  • Not at this moment, I was trying to position the di2 climbing buttons on the bars

  • I didn't have to change the crown race to use my whisky forks. The original fsa headset was same angle

  • Not ‘done’, but it’s mobile, at least. Excellent for commuting so far, I have plans for other stuff though.

It needs a rack and a setback seatpost, but for now I’m really enjoying it.

  • really nice colour!!

  • I wasn't sold on it at first, but if you want that frameset it has to be purple. It’s grown on me though, and I like it with black components.

  • Anyone know what the axle to crown measurement is of a Ridgeback Flight Fork? Found one available cheaper than any other suitable straight steerer disc fork. Offset is 50mm, so might be a change there, but unsure of A-C given it's coming from a hybrid.

Have a 2013 croix de fer, but it feels a bit dead to be honest. Seatpost is completely seized too, so I'm not completely married to the bike anyway as I've Tour de Fer, a Volare 853 and Argon 18 X-Road, but this is the bike that I can just use whatever the conditions so hold onto it.

SJS, Ridewill, Bike24 and ebay all have other options, but not sure the bike is worth spending that much. Would be if the seatpost wasn't so woefully stuck.

  • Just fitted a pair of WTB 650bx47, clearances are very tight both ends..... will I die?

  • I am also contemplating SS-ing my CdF - what ratio are you running?

  • 39 - 18.

Easy enough gear when loaded up with panniers full of shopping.

  • I’ve tried this - 650x47 senderos (aggressive tread). Semi-muddy ride and I did not die. It’s probably worth getting the crimps on your chainstays lengthened though. I got quoted £20 for it at a reputable frame builder here on bristol. I just currently can’t be arse dismantling my bike to get it done!

  • Is anyone selling a medium or small frameset? Cosmetic condition isn't important as long as it's not got any major dents or anything.

  • Looking good. What bars are they?

  • Hello! Bought my CDF frameset last month and it's the first bike I'll be building up with discs. I understand the rear hub spacing is 135mm.

Bit baffled as to what wheels fit and I'm not up to standard with modern (discs, 130mm+ hubs) etc etc. Can anyone advise on what fits or can point me in the direction of some sound reading?

Here's a pic of it with some bits bolted on!

  • From a quick look it’s probably 135mm qr. Which was pretty standard before Through Axel came along. Should be some out there eg: https://www.condorcycles.com/collections/disc-hubs/products/condor-supremacy-quick-release-rear-disc-hub. Can also run an adapter (some hubs come with) to change from TA to QR. TA is by far the most common solution now

But be careful what you do for, most modern road and mtb hubs are not interchangeable when fitting a cassette but some of the older stuff (think 10 speed and less) is. If you’re building it up with a road based groupset (105/ultegra etc) then just make sure you get hubs thst for a road cassette vs mtb.

  • Thanks a lot, super useful. Yes will be road, 10s 105 for now.

  • Welcome to the club!

    Always liked that colourway

  • Sizing question on the newer croix de fer. I'm 5"8.5 and recommended a medium frame. My current bike is a Giant Contend SL Disc in medium but it always feels too stretched out.
Look at the geo charts, the newer medium is a little longer at 8mm reach, but the stack is much higher at 30mm compared to the Giant. Not to mention a much high standover on the cdf could lead to a comedy of errors.
Anyway, how is the size chart on genesis website for accuracy? It puts me in a the medium, buy I wonder if I should go with a small.
Ideally I'd test it out but don't know anywhere that stocks Genesis in central London

  • Assuming not wildly different geo from previous years, I would say you’re right to consider going with a small. I’m about the same height and a small is spot on for me, with a sensible amount of seatpost and a 90mm (or 100mm - I forget!) stem.

  • I'm thinking about selling my medium cdf if you're interested..pm.me

  • I cant comment on this year's but I'm 5'10 and previously had a small with an inline seatpost and 100mm stem which was perfect fit wise

  • @AlexD @mustardbeak thanks for the input. It looks like the geo changed a couple of years ago towards more relaxed and taller which if that is the case, would make a stronger case still for a small.

  • Better. Did a lot of miles on this last year, and decided flat bars aren’t for me.
