  • just sent you a DM

  • im on the eastish side near oldfield pk station. Brother in law was saying about that farm shop cafe that is a nice spot. thanks for the heads up
    @consciousbadger ta will check

  • Good farm shop at Winsley too (Hartley Farm shop)

  • there is one that has a chippy and a cat called Mr chips but cant remeber where it might be closer to frome . i want to meet Mr chips

  • One of my good mates is in Bath, he complains it's always soggy there...

I left London almost exactly six years ago, best and worst thing I've ever done... 🤷

  • You can tell the group of Audi, Skoda, and whatever is behind have been driving cars long enough to remember the old advice of turning your wheels towards the curb to mitigate against handbrake failures.

  • Or maybe they just read the Highway Code.

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/waiting-and-parking-238-to-252

    "
    Rule 252

Parking on hills. If you park on a hill you should:

    • park close to the kerb and apply the handbrake firmly
    • select a forward gear and turn your steering wheel away from the kerb when facing uphill
    • select reverse gear and turn your steering wheel towards the kerb when facing downhill
    • use ‘park’ if your car has an automatic gearbox.

Rule 252: Turn your wheels away from the kerb when parking facing uphill. Turn them towards the kerb when parking facing downhill
    "

  • It rains a lot in Somerset. Good for the cows

  • Or maybe they just read the Highway Code.

    I seriously doubt it

  • Rides wise, yes. Do you want completely traffic free or just less traffic?

  • Chuckles at the thought of an Audi driver reading the Highway Code

  • So, after 14 ish years in London (for me at least, Jim's a lifer!) the time has finally come... me and Jim are moving to Vancouver! I'm moving between wildly excited and absolutely freaking out. The furthest I've moved previously was Cardiff, with a few bags of stuff in the back of my Mini...so the logistics of this feels pretty daunting. Anyone have any transatlantic moving tips?

  • Nice to see Bath getting some love and didn’t realise so many Bath dwellers were on here - hey! If you want rides, can definitely recommend joining VC Walcot (more chilled and social of the two cycling clubs). Membership is super cheap (esp for half year membership) and all through lockdown they’ve been posting weekly virtual club rides (mostly sensible distances on a good variety of quiet roads) which have been a great way to get to know the less well known routes. If you join now you’ll get access to all the routes on Strava. Or if anyone local fancies going out on a socially distanced ride hit me up!

  • Woah! That's amazing news.

  • Woah! That's quite the move! Good luck with everything!

  • Two audax rides from Bath I recommend, Mendip Transmitter & Raglan Castle.

Maybe a post lockdown LFGSS spring/ summer ride can be arranged

  • Exciting! Travel in something bigger then a pedalo!

  • Just less I'm confident on the roads but while I was in Frome the A roads had big articulated lorrys in thoes roads its not fun but from my couple of walks in Bath there seems to be less lorrys.

And once im settled def up for rides. I'm still unpacking!

  • I ride with Walcot...well I pay my subs and get out officially about twice a year. It’s the better club.

  • BIG! Amazing news.

  • Nice loop up the wellsway, out along to timsbury via Tunley, then across to farmborough and back from there via marksbury and corston. Roads generally not too busy or too shitlane, and lots of options to extend or add in little diversions. That and the kingsdown/south wraxall/edge of BoA and back are my go-two’s for a nice 1-1.5hr spin

  • @Tracks
I lived in Cardiff 30 years ago, fond memories.. I’m sure it’s changed loads. Hope you time there is great. Chapter off Llandaff Road, was ace that was in normal times, cinema, theatre, bands, bars...

  • Woah!! Amazing!!

  • Great. thanks for this 👍👍

  • Thanks everyone! Been a little while in the works, but I think it's starting to actually sink in now 😬 looking forward to the easy access to hockey and mountains 😍 I've even started riding an MTB... gonna really miss all the LFGSS folks though. Hope you'll come and visit!
