  • I just looked at fork service prices at TF tuned 💸

  • You are not far from hebden bridge in Leeds, amazing riding around there and it’s a quality town for a day trip. If you do end up moving to Leeds I would fully recommend a trip to a pub called the moorcock inn near Sowerby bridge which is up on the moors, the food and beer is incredible. In the summer you can sit out front all afternoon ordering all sorts of delights off there bbq.

  • You work in TV innit? I can put you in contact with some friends at perform/dazn. We went through the let's move to Leeds thing a couple of years ago and stayed in Hebden Bridge for a week. Lovely countryside but not for us in the end. Isn't the Calder valley so deep there that there are people that don't get any sunlight some months of the year? Sumfink like that.

  • Thanks. I'm a front end developer, apparently Leeds is decent for tech jobs, I guess I'll find out when actually applying for them. I think we'll aim for Chapel Allerton but maybe Kirkstall or Morley area so not too villagey, it's been a while since I've been in that area of the country though. Are you still up in Leeds?

  • fucking hell Sumo moving out of London .. what next?!

  • Are you doing it because its just easy to leave via NW London (where you are right now)?

  • I just got offered a remote FE role, company is based in London so London salary, going to move to Bristol in July!

I didn't have to look very hard, I bet there is more out there.

  • No mate we ended up back in NW London. Remember I bought that amp of you not long ago! Think Chapel Allerton is where my friend moved to, traded his 3 bed in Buckinghamshire somewhere for a 5 bed up there. Best of luck tho dude. Do like those old houses up there.

  • Welcome, good choice :)

  • an old mate of mine i knew from UCL has just moved to leeds.

i think that with remote working, people will be leaving london in droves.

  • people will be leaving london in droves.

    Good. More jobs for us.

  • Because we can live in a large 3 bed house with a kitchen, living room, dining room and big garden for under £200k
    quick example:

I can get work up there for basically the same salary as here and it's under half an hour drive to the Dales or the Peaks let alone a bike ride out into the countryside. I could cycle in to the city for work or use a motorbike because parking exists and there isn't rampant theft.

We need somewhere bigger and want more space, there isn't an equivalent for staying in London, we could get a 2 bed smaller house maybe with a garden in somewhere like Romford for min £320k with a 1 1/2 hour commute each way as well as £2k for a season train ticket. So why spend 3 extra hours a day doing tube & train & bus for somewhere that costs nearly twice as much per month just for the mortgage let alone transport. We also looked at getting a bigger house around Hemel Hempstead but then it's £5k for a season ticket as well as the commute time. Also my partner is going to do a career change and there's a good chance there will be a while that we'll be living on only my salary, much easier to do when it's under £1500 for mortgage+bills rather than nearly that for just the mortgage.

  • oh no I get it, I'd love to live in Leeds.

Its either Leeds or somewhere in Scotland for me.

Why wont you let me troll you in peace?

  • A colleague at my previous job has just done the same. Honestly I'm slightly worried that as more companies embrace the full time remote thing that they'll stop wanting to pay London wages cos they can hire someone from Hull instead.

  • Because it's illegal

  • Chapel Allerton is nice just don't mistake Chapeltown for it. Two very different areas on each others doorstep.

Kirkstall is studentville but have a look at Horsforth which is further out to the west.

Morley... Well the nightclub back in the day was amazing when it was The Orbit and Sven Vath used to play there but it can be a bit odd on the weekend.

On the whole North and West Leeds is good, avoid South and East Leeds unless you like prostitutes and drugs.

City Centre bars are great for real ale.

  • Heh. If you buy the Tresco Ave one you'll be 5 minutes from me.

  • Oh yeah I thought your name was familiar. Chapel Allerton is definitely the most desirable, I don't think we'll find somewhere right in it but close by would be nice. There's some really nice old stone buildings if you go more rural but it's a little too out in the sticks for me.

  • Oh nice info, thanks. My girlfriend has her eye on this place in Chapeltown but it'll be gone by the time we can move anyway

Horsforth looks nice, I'm a little wary of going too close to the airport, I'd rather not have low flying planes over the house.

How's that area around where you?

  • not a single rapha garment :'(

  • Well... It's great for transport links and ease of getting into Leeds/Bradford and the motorway network.

Bramley isn't too bad but it's a bit of a mix of older housing and ex council / council property. You'll be a bit closer to Armley which is a bit of a mess frankly. If you can move further out west or north then it gets posher.

Horsforth can be a bit noisy due to the airport. Rodley and Farsley are good. Calverley is lovely with a lot of green space around it.

  • Sister lived in Chapel A until a couple of years ago. Tis nice.

  • Isn't the Calder valley so deep there that there are people that don't get any sunlight some months of the year? Sumfink like that.

    Sounds like Todmorden

  • We went through a very similar thought process but ended up in Chester. Idea was Wales and th hills there. Unfortunately we're not allowed over the border at the moment so meh

We're both in jobs originally in London but both told we could work flexibly so we packed our bags, grabbed the kids and headed out.
