I do not understand?

f1.4 to f2 is half the light. Half the light is 1 f-stop.
or ...
f2 to f1.4 is twice the light. Twice the light is 1 f-stop.

You can spend the $500 now ;-)

I post the scarf of regret:

This is high on my list of lens to purchase. I've got the 18mm and 35mm but find either too short or long for what I want to do.
-
• #259
It's a very nice lens, autofocus is remarkable compared to the older 35mm and 56mm which I also have.
I will admit that Knowledge Of Miro is now taunting me, however. What's that final stop worth?
The F2 is tiny compared to the F1.4, is weather-sealed and much faster to focus. But.

Stop being an idiot and get on with taking some photos.

Yes dad.

And tidy your room.

You did the right thing.
Modern digital high-ISO performance, plus the fact you're not looking through a lens (instead using a quasi-rangefinder) means you don't need fast lenses. Shallow depth-of-field is a bit of a crutch for shitty photographers anyway.

What camera bag would fit this lot neatly? I like the look of the Billingham range but would need to take everything to a shop to see into which of the range my stuff would fit, does anyone else have similar things and know what size would work and what other makes of bag should I consider?

The Scarf of Regret pictured up-thread is on top of my current camera bag, for reference.

I was given one of these. Very practical and smart. Possibly oversize for you but comes with clever dividers.

I get the xpro2, a 16mm,a 23mm, and a 35mm into one of these Millican/Fuji felt insert things and then put that into whichever bag I am generally carrying around - usually one of those Filson briefcase things. I have a small Domke from my SLR days but everything rattles around in it, and then I tried a tiny Millican bag but it's too small to carry a jumper or umbrella, and I was sick of buying camera bags at that point.

Intersting, I was thinking of a dedicated, but didn't scream "I'm full of expensive camera equipment!", Amey sent me this review the other day and the "here's what you can get in it" shot looks familiar:

That performed phenomenally well of 2 days of hiking in the peak district rain etc.

Billinghams are much beloved of the Leica crew, seem very well made and quite discrete. If it weren't for the fact I'd already bought some other, lesser bags, I would have gone for that one as a dedicated walk-around for the Fuji.
That said, I suspect I'd still probably only use it relatively rarely - I generally find it easier to do the insert thing and use whichever bag is handiest for whatever else I want to do that day. TBH I still use an X100 a lot because I often can't really squeeze the Xpro2 into my luggage.
Anyway, part of the point of the insert photo was to show you how little space you can get away with.

I'm using the X100 as a walking around at lunch/going to a meeting/ad-hoc camera, if I'm heading to Kew/steam trains/whatevs I grab the blue bag that has the X-pro2 plus associated gubbins.
I don't have another bag that I'd consider using for the camera - all my other bags are rucksacks.
I think the Hadley Small is winning so far, likely in safety black.

I wore the Cravat of New Possibilities to a meeting recently, mainly to wind up a colleague.
It's $500 for 1 f-stop.
But yeah.
