  • Does anyone have an account with MPB? I think you can refer me to trigger a discount.

  • Can't see how/where but if you can direct me happy to do so.

  • .

  • I've got an old Pentax K200D that won't turn on anymore, and a LumoPro LP180 flash that turns on, but overheats immediately, then shuts down. Both of those were lightly used (the Pentax was used heavily used during vacations, but that's around 10 weeks of use max, after that it mostly sat on a shelf; the LP180 flash fired at most a 100 times). The Pentax was bought somewhere in 2009 or so, the LP180 in 2016 or 2017, so they're both out of warranty I believe.

In your experience, is this the kind of issues that can be solved by a photography shop, or are they just good for the bin? Thanks!

  • Any chance you can share how to get this discount please? Just about to buy a camera and lens and a discount would be very welcome :) cheers

  • Pm sent

  • Rechargeable AA batteries, Ive bought ones from Calumet before but they never seem to last. Any suggestions on decent ones that will be good for flashes

I used to use those Calumet ones for flash too and they were shit. Had to take dozens with me at a time. These are great and hold their charge for yonks.

  • I use eneloop, pretty good IMHO.

  • @Tonts @CYOA I was looking at those pricey but if they last I'm willing to invest and thats 2 comments for them so they seem decent. Have you had a while out them?

  • I have 16 and I've had them and used them regularly for 3 years and counting. I bought their charger too at the same time rather than some generic one - whether or not that makes a difference. I'd been looking for something decent for a while and a sound recordist I work with recommended them - he uses them for all his kit and it's never failed him. Def the 'pro' version though rather than the standard eneloop ones. I reckon I've charged them 100+ times. They say the pro can be charged 500 times, the standard set can apparently be charged more times (2000+) but lower capacity and lower current.

  • Another vote for eneloop. Mine must be 10 years old at least.

  • I am after something like a Sony a6000, but only have about £300 to spend. I really dont mind second hand at all. What should I be looking for?

Needs to be relatively small, simple and capable of taking good quality stills and video.

Sorry for the noob question in advance!

  • A Sony Nex? Also shares lenses with the a6000 if you decide to upgrade.

  • I have an entry level DSLR (Canon EOS 1300D), which is absolutely fine for most of my use and I am really happy with the photos. Particularly with carefully selected lenses (the 50mm prime is wonderfully crisp).

I would like a compact, mirrorless for putting in my pocket when on the bike. I'm not fussed about brand and I have reasonable expectations re: budget without having Leica money. It has to be fully manual and have aperture/shutter priority modes - not interested in point and click as I can do that with a phone.

    Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Fuji? Is that the one with a 23mm prime lens?

  • yep which is 35mm on APS-C sensor it has

  • Thank you. I will have a look!

  • Does anyone ride with a X100* in their rear pocket? Have to sling mine or use a bar bag.
Could also look at the ricoh gr iii or ricoh gr iii x for true pocket size.

  • X100 a touch too chunky to sling in a rear pocket imo. I got bad shoulder pain the one time I rode w/mine slung cross-body : /

  • All food for thought, chaps. Thanks.

@cozey agreed, a strap isn't an option. I'd go with a phone before that - need to be comfy to do the actual riding.

  • Yeah, as much of an X100 fanboy I am, it’s not really something I’d try and put in a pocket - especially a cycling jersey. Maybe a coat pocket.

Sony RX100 is a much better option for riding and also shoots decent video.
Pure anecdata, I know of at least one pro cycling photographer that has one in the fleet.
