  • X100 is kinda small anyway... Didn't realise the X70 was that tiny...

  • You could fit an optical viewfinder onto that x70 hotshoe. Voightlander make one. You can slide it off and the body into a pocket.

There is a GR v X70 lens test about that's a bit disappointing. I'll link later if convenient.

    (Edit) Link

  • weird question but.. what would you choose. a 35mm lens or another camera with a fixed 35mm.

i have a sony a7ii. looking to get a 35mm lens for it or a Fuji X100s/t. Ideally i would get a Sony RX1Rii bur its too expensive.

  • You already know what I'm going to say.

  • I need a tripod, a proper one... Just go cheap, generic or is it really worth spending a bit more?

I also need to buy another DSLR, as much as I love my GF1 it's nothing like my old D80... I'm also gonna be shooting broadcast quality video but don't wanna spend a fortune, Nikon would be great as I'm more familiar with them... Suggestions?

  • its worth it. buy an expensive one and you wont need one again.

i hear the d500 is very good

  • My bandmate manages a branch of a massive electrical store here in Oz so I'll be able to get staff discount... If I get this new job I'm going for it's gonna take me in a totally different direction, gonna need my own video kit to learn my new trade... Just getting my ducks lined up just in case, the tripod I need anyway...

  • D810 or D810A

  • Is the next suggestion gonna be even MORE expensive than the last? 😋

    Thanks, buddy... x

  • That suggestion was for a camera that will hold the time passing…

  • Another vote for the D500, even though it's not even out yet. If it's anywhere as good as the D300 it should keep you going for 20 years.

Don't skimp on a tripod. Everyone does that and ends up buying twice.

  • Thanks... I'll probably be back to ask about lenses, tho' I'm pretty sure I know what I want on that score...

  • Yeah, lenses are the easy part, really.

  • So... Tracking autofocus...

Is this available on a sub £1,500 body? I see the new Canon has it, would be mega useful... But it's gonna be AU$12,000... Nope...

  • Quick trip up to KL/Singapore, have some crab, grab some discounted loot, back down again in time for tea?

  • That's actually a fabulous idea...

Is it that much cheaper tho'?

  • I assume you're talking about the 1DX mkii... Yeah, its mega-bucks.
For video, you're probably better off with the 80D which has the tracking focus and touch screen but also, being a crop sensor, should have less rolling-shutter effects than a full-frame. It doesn't do 4k though, if that matters. Also, it's a Canon.

If that is too pricey, its predecessor, the 70D also does the tracking focus thing.

I think Canon have dropped the ball in the market they basically defined with the 5D mkii. Since then, they have just made really half-arsed efforts in order to protect their cinema line. Meanwhile, Sony have been making point and shoots with better video but horrible ergonomics and battery life (for video).

  • That's great info, man, thanks!

And so much more affordable... 😋

  • I'll second this @>>>>>> we're using Sony a lot more these days for simple video. If it's talking heads type stuff where you're not going to need to do much manual operation then a Sony A7Sii (or even the original A7S which is about half the price) is a sterling bit of kit.

Alternatively there's a new one around the corner called the A6300 which is dead cheap by comparison, has breathtaking autofocus, internal 4k etc.. the biggest drawback I can see is it doesn't have a headphone jack but often you'd record audio off board anyway.

What kind of work are you intending to do with it?

Regarding a trip up to KL. It is a fair bit cheaper yes. I can put you in touch with a producer friend of mine based in KL who will have a more up to date line on how much kit is and where's best to get it from if it helps?

Whether it's cheap enough to warrant a flight and a few good feeds is another thing. You might end up spending the same but... crab.

  • I can't stop thinking about crab...

    What were we talking about?

  • Just putting my input for the Sony RX100 IV, used it during the Track World Cup last sunday, and granted the menu system can sometimes make you feel like you can pull all your hair out, the images are pretty decent IMO and probably on par with my Sony NEX-5, but what it really excelled was the when you put it into the 'speed priority' mode it was like a blood machine gun in your hand capturing very decent images whilst the subject was moving rapidly.

  • don't know if i will create a for sale thread but i'm considering selling my Sony A7ii with a Sony FE 55 1.8 lens. if anyone is interested let me know

  • Opinions on selling me X-pro1 w/35mm and picking up an RX100 III ?

Maybe even the IV depending on what i get for the xp1

  • Why are ye selling? If you don't mind me asking that is.
