  • Yeah, the f stop, shutter speed and iso don’t look out of place for the UK so concur It’s probably going to be a shutter issue.

  • Anyone had any experience with a Leica M5?

Tempted to pick one up along with a Zeiss 35 2.8.
I like the boxy utilitarian looks, and seems to keep its price down compared to some of the other Ms.

  • I'd get an M4-p or any other Leitz (canadian) ones tbh.

Dont get a semi-skimmed Leica. There are better rangefinders out there.

  • Why do you think the M5 is semi-skimmed?

  • Dunno, just unrefined? Same reason they are cheaper than other Leicas?

Great camera I am sure. But there are better rangefinders than Leica if you are looking for pure value/performance.

    CLE is excellent.

  • Zeiss 35 2.8.

A bit porky but ..... such a nice lens.

    {edit} I'm thinking of the F2! The 2.8 is ace {edit}

I hear M5s are pretty good. Just fugly.

  • Anyone selling a silver m6? I have sellers remorse :/

  • I had looked at a CL/CLE, but to my mind they seem more overpriced than an M5. You're essentially paying over the odds for a Minolta SLR modified to be a rangefinder.

Not a rangefinder obvs, but perhaps the more sensible option I'm considering is a Mamiya 645 Pro. I like Mamiya glass, already have a 645J, and interested to try a more modern (and lighter) iteration.

  • I have one & an M4, the viewfinder is nicer on the M4 (Better contrast on RF patch & the blue hue makes it seems brighter) but overall user experience is far superior on the M5 imo. I just wish I bought a silver one instead of the black chrome.

Pick one up! I doubt you’ll regret or lose money on it if you decide it’s not for you

  • HUGE diff between CL and CLE btw.

I have 645 super; without grip very ergonomically awkward but the 80 1.9 gives you same look as the pentax 67 105 2.4.

  • Hey Fuji X100T/F/V users... what case should I buy that fits? Ideally something padded with a couple pockets for spare battery and memory card, but nothing too bulky?

  • If you want to (socially distant) borrow anything lemme know.

  • Id prefer something like a padded case that would go in a non-camera backpack

  • I've got a Domke F-8 Ruggedwear bag. I often use it in another bag without its shoulder strap.

  • Just a camera insert should do the job then?

  • indeed it should... looking for ones that are (coincidentally?) the right size with some features.. the Peak Design Range / Field pouches look nice, albeit spendy. but I already use that system for sling/wrist strap. hmmm

  • I have the medium PD range pouch that I currently use when I throw the X100V in the backpack. Easily enough space for a spare battery plus you can easy attach it to any of their straps. Plus waterproof finish which can come in handy. To be honest, I didn't buy the pouch for the X100V, I simply had it in my collection already and comes in handy now.

I bought the PD leash yesterday as it matches the smaller camera a lot better than the typical seatbelt style Slide that I already have. I'll keep using my slides for the XH1.

  • Did someone on here have a GW690, @Turkish?

If so what do you think of it?

  • I had the GA645. Come to think of it I'm not sure why I sold it.

  • I have two, they are great (GW and GSW)

  • Thanks. I think I’ve given up on the idea of the Leica M5 and spending more on 35mm. Quite happy with my Fuji digitals now, but want a portable medium format camera <£1k to keep shooting some film.

@spenceey The GA645 was something else I was considering, but wary of sinking money into older electronics

  • M5 is a cult camera. It’s ‘larger’ and has quirks the others don’t. However if you get one and learn to love it, you’re part of an elite club.

If you can find an M4-P or similar at a good price you won’t be disappointed. They were always megabucks. I loved the M6TTL for the years I owned it, a lot more than the M2 I had prior. Don’t buy a CL/CLE as they have a limited lens capability and rangefinder accuracy.

My CL went all over the place with me, and I should have kept it (and the 40mm Summicron-C), but there were times it missed focus a little. I wouldn’t mind owning one again, but probably never will.
