  • Yup, 1st image shows damaged lens mount. That's not going to work I'm afraid.

  • Plastic lens mounts. I though the VR DX zooms had proper metal mounts. That sucks.

  • Okay, grr, will see if body is fine and then seller will send another lense, they are being very helpful.

    Thanks for the help chappos.

  • Have you seen all the reviews saying ‘order cancelled without explanation’?

  • What's the likelihood of an Xpro3 being announced this year? I don't really keep up with camera release cycles but I love the form factor of the xpro cameras so would rather stick with them if possible.

I'm looking for a camera for a bit of long term travel and its either xpro or another of the fuji line, preferably something that's weather sealed too.

  • It seems my latest phone (Oneplus 3T) update now gives me a camera app that allows me to take RAW shots.

Is there any point to this? Are average phone camera sensors good enough to get something better than the processed jpg out?

  • Are average phone camera sensors good enough to get something better than the processed jpg out?

The advantage of raw is you can edit better, in a non-destructive way.

So the question perhaps should be ... is the average phone user good enough to process something better than the jpeg?

  • Yes, there's the non-destructive edit benefit I guess. I was more wondering whether the RAW from a small phone sensor would contain enough detail to allow that editing.

  • Not sure I understand then.

It’s the file type that allows raw editing, not the resolution or level of information.

  • You're wondering if the RAW file will contain enough information in blown out highlights and blacked out shadows to pull them back in post, right ? I guess just under and over expose a few photos and have a go ?

I have found jpg processing in phone is getting a lot better now. The jpg's out of my XR seem a lot nicer than the ones I was getting out of my 6S+ previously for example.

  • Yep, that's it. With a sensor something like twenty times smaller than my DSLR I was wondering how much range it could pull in to make editing a RAW worth it.

I suppose taking some pictures and playing with them in Lightroom would be the obvious answer.

  • Got camera envy as my missus upgraded her ages old Nikon to a Fuji x-t20 with 18-55 lens, so I got envious and upgraded my x100s to a x-e3 with 27mm lens.
If anyone sees or has a Fuji xf 56mm lens for sale let me know.

Also now have an x-100s for sale if anyone is interested..

  • Ok then the answer is yes.

Computational imaging is moving faster than sensor tech but phone sensors are sitting around 9 stops of DR anyway. They’re absolutely good enough to warrant deep editing.

  • I'll have to actually give it a try (although somewhat academic at the moment as my phone camera is borked and refuses to focus).

  • Anyone own a Sony A6000?

Looking for a lightweight camera for taking photos in mountains. Love the Pixel 3XL but it doesn't do good landscapes.

Would look at buying the Sigma 16mm 1.4f for landscape.

    Yes or no?

  • I like mine but only have the 28mm f2, very quick focus.

  • I'd like a quick focus lens, I tend to see a view and take a snap.

Is it a Sony or 3rd party one?

  • Sony lens, this one.

Apparently under-rated, but it provides the equivalent of a 42mm lens on this camera and that's my current happy place.

  • That's twice the price of the camera and stock lens!

  • edit - I paid about 600 CAD for the body which equals what I paid for the lens.

  • Have an a6000. Personally I've come full circle. Have a few lenses now, but if I'm pratting about in the hills I'll just put the stock lense on. It takes good pics, and is quick to focus. So I'd buy the standard set up, and consider more lenses as and when you feel you need them.

  • After spending the weekend researching the in's and out's of it all I'm going to agree with you.

Extra batteries and charger seem to be the first thing to buy anyway.

Also liking this strap from Black Rapid for attaching to the rucksack.

  • I think anything which will make it easier to take your camera out with you is a good buy.

Black rapid straps are nice, but I’ve found they work better with larger heavier cameras, smaller lighter mirror less cameras tended to bounce around too much for my liking.

For walking/hiking, I have a modular think tank pouch that velcros onto waist support strap of my back pack.
Does make me look and feel like a pro Korean tourist (which is me just reverting to type I suppose)

  • Ta. I'll have a look at the Think Tank.
