  • M6 are great, although if you can find a TTL, get that one, mainly for the shutter speed knob.

  • Thanks guys. I’m thinking for the moment to go with something like a xpro or 2 just to dip my feet back into rangerfiners and hopefully get some video too.
    Don’t suppose anyone’s selling a pro2?!

  • okay so a quick question.

I'm looking at the fuji lenses and can't decide between the 1.4 or 2 35mm. Will the extra stop really make that much difference? I love low light and trying to convince myself the couple hundred quid, plus losing the weather sealing is worth it.

  • The 35 f2 apparently has loads of distortion and vignetting in raw but it’s sealed and focuses extremely fast and is very sharp.

The 1.4 has better overall characteristics but focuses slowly and isn’t weathersealed.

  • With autofocus the general principle is get a smaller lens if you want it to focus quickly. Fuji has great low-light capability if you are worried about one stop. Plus it will be lighter.

Or listen to @Well_is_it he has the kit

  • A friend of mine has the 35mm 1.4. I didn't use it long enough to say something about the quality but the auto focus was horrible in low light. Takes ages to focus and when it focuses, it's off focus. You'd be faster and better off focussing manually.
I'm also looking for a fast 35mm X-mount but there don't seem to be good alternatives. I wonder how the Samyang 1.2 performs.

    Buy an M9.

  • If only my man!

  • Been looking at the Leica Q in more detail - such a nice OS and super fast autofocus. Still the size of the RX1R ii... That and a fixed 28mm is pretty... specific. Could get a lot more done with a 35 I think : /

  • I've used the f2 and the f1.4. The f1.4 is a lovely lens but the autofocus does indeed hunt quite a bit. the f2 is a lot quicker and faster to focus.

On the X-pro1 or 2? I've got the 35mm 1.4 and have found it to be a nice lens to use, never had the F2 but I did have the 23mm F2 and far prefer the older 1.4 23mm.

  • On the X-pro1 or 2?

I don't remember if it was his X-T2 or my X-Pro2, haha. I also have the 23mm f2 which is awesome but not my focal length apparently. It doesn't get used as much as my 35mm f2.8 which is too slow on many occasions.

  • Darn. I was pretty much sold on 2 until reading your comment...

  • Oh and from what I've read the AF on the 1.4 is much slower, which for available light photography sounds like it could be a pain. The only thing attracting me to it is that extra stop.

This camera was only a look into the fuji line up of cameras and yet here I am doing a lot of research! I may just go for the f2 and then look at a 28mm in the near future also.

  • You’re welcome to borrow the 1.4

  • Popped out to Jessops at lunch to see the f2, it's pretty big in person (even though this is meant to be the smaller one!)

My xpro is coming with the 28mm (40mmish equiv) so now I'm thinking of a 28mm equiv - which I believe you can get in f2.

  • FWIW I leave the 23mm F1.4 on mine almost all the time.

  • I keep going back to this then I think would an A7II (or something Sony full-frame) plus a 35mm be that bigger?!

Q is a different beast. This is the best review that I have read about it: https://craigmod.com/essays/leica_q/

Tempted but I am going to wait till either Q or RX1 gets updated at least.

  • Fantastic read that. The Q is a nice bit of kit but I echo your thoughts around the A7II plus a pancake.

  • I usually keep my current cameras in a cage as I use them for video predominantly and can't be bothered to unscrew it when I want to take it out for photos. So an A7S2 or an A6300/500 in a cage is enormous compared to the Leica Q which is already a whack bigger than the RX1R

But something about the ease of use / ergonomics of the Q... ugh. Will see what the updates hold.

  • Will see what the updates hold.

    amen

  • and you are right

  • Camera arrived. Can confirm that 40mm (equiv) is wayyy too tight. Question is do I go to 35 or 28?

  • What camera did you order? I seem to have missed it
