Just got a barely used Nex-6 for super cheap, primarily for street and cycling stuff.
Was keen on a A6000 but the Nex-6 was too good a deal to let go.Looking at lenses but not really schooled in the Sonyverse.
The Sony 16mm f/2.8 and 20mm f/2.8 pancakes look nice for portability but pricey.
Sigma 19mm f/2.8 DN looks like a solid option too for the price, but not that portable.
Leaning towards the Sigma for now.
Anybody have experience with any of these? -

After many years of not taking pictures, I'm thinking about having another crack. Currently I have a Canon 350D + 50mm f/1.8 but I don't really feel locked into the Canon ecosystem. I am rather tempted by these newfangled mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. Based on a quick browse I like the sound of both the Olympus OM-D E-M10 II and the Fujifilm X-T10.
Plan A is that I resume photography a bit more seriously and acquire a handful of lenses and eventually (2-3yrs) a fancier body. Plan B is I use this with the kit lens for general snapping. I reckon the odds are currently 80:20 A:B
I would appreciate the hive mind's opinions, particularly regarding the range of lenses in the two systems esp primes at the cheaper end of the spectrum. I am pretty ignorant regarding what is available. Current budget around £600 for body+lens. Internet has EM10 + kit zoom for £400 and a few plausible looking lenses around £200 but I'm going to Shenzhen & Hong Kong in a few months so might be able to get for a fair bit less there.

i dont know about the Olympus system but i had the Fuji X-pro1 and loved it. Used XT1's can be found at good prices. Used X-Pro1's at very good prices. Lens wise it depends what you are shooting. The Fuji 35mm f2 is cheap and has good reviews. The older 35 1.4 is a great lens although a bit slow in autofocus. the best Fuji lens i used was the 56 1.2.
Edit: there the option of a used Sony A7 as well. You can use your Canon lens on it!

I've got an Olympus PEN EP-1 I was going to post up in the Classifieds soon. I thought I'd offer it here first. Very good condition as it has been very largely used as a back up camera since I purchased it new. Body has the 1.1 firmware update that improved AF speed greatly. Boxed with all original accessories, comes with the Olympus 17mm pancake lens, lens hood & Olympus VF1 viewfinder. Also comes with an Aki Asahi custom black skin (which I think looks amazing and improves the grippyness of the body). Its the one on the right in the pic (the leather strap is not for sale). It's some years old now but still takes amazing pictures and as a Micro 4/3rds camera has loads of available lenses etc. Was thinking £170 for the lot.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did look at the Sony offerings, especially the a6000, but I had entirely overlooked the full frame ones cos I figured they would be too expensive, especially because of the lenses. I see that you can indeed get a lot of adaptors, but an EF-S one which supports setting the aperture (it is electronically set) is quite pricey - probably more than I paid for the original lens!
Any thoughts about the lens lineup between Fuji and micro 4/3?
-
• #117
Micro 4/3s probably has a slightly wider variety of lenses because there's a number of manufacturers, but the impression I have is that they're much more focused on zooms. For primes the Fuji glass is very hard to beat, although the oldest lenses (the 35mm 1.4 was one of the first launch lenses) are a little hesitant to focus compared to the newer ones.

A used sony A7 with a new 28mm or the new 200 pound 50 1.8 i think is the best choice. Adapted lenses with manual focusing is very easy because there is focus peaking and focus point magnification

Recommendations on a half decent flatbed film scanner? Budget of £150. New or used.
Also best free/cheap software for sorting the files out? I've only ever used silverfast

Well, I do see the appeal of the full frame A7, but it's rather large, isn't it? One of the reasons I'm keen on these MILC/CSC options is that they are small and light so are good for touring and hiking.
I couldn't see a 2nd hand A7 for the sort of price you're finding (but I only checked eBay). I will cogitate a bit...
-
• #121
depends on the lens really. none of the above bodies are pocketable so 100grams wont make much of a difference. Search in facebook for sony camera buy sell trade. Ebay tends to have higher prices to compensate for the high seller fees

If I ever win the lottery I'm buying a Monochrom...
I'd probably get the Leica Q, it make a fantastic replacement for the X100.
