  • He's entitled to complain about the press being arseholes in my book. Privileged or not.

He's not allowed to point out a wrong because he's rich?

I did get totally pissed off by the Dutch king going on about this "the caring state from the past is gone". Err, dude, you are sitting on a pile of money, WTF, is THAT how you use your time to address the nation?

  • I think he's asking not so much for himself, but for her sake. I suppose we shouldn't be humane to our lizard rulers though ...

Couldn't work out how to beg a question in there, sadly

  • fuck them all and all those that consort with them. the fact that the 'royal family' even exists is an affront to decency.

  • there's a grubby thread of commonality running between the backward looking tory shits running this country, the right wing gutterpress and the 'royal' family. It's one writhing ball of snakes that you can't unpick from one another in any meaningful way. If 'prince' harry doesn't like it, he needs to have the courage of his convictions and dissociate himself from the publicly funded teat he's been more than happy to suckle at for the last 30 odd years.

  • An interesting idea although I can't see Labour respecting the outcome

  • Labour is a marginal party in Richmond so it shouldn't have much of an impact. I think Goldsmith is toast.

Having said that, I wish they would respect it.

  • I don't think Goldsmith is toast as by all accounts he's a popular fella locally. It seems high unlikely that Labour will withdraw their candidate. Corbyn paid a visit to the constituency at the weekend (although amusingly their candidate had previously called on Corbyn to resign).

  • Not sure what's amusing about that. Most MPs called for him to resign.

Re: Goldsmith - he may have been popular, but I suspect his racist mayoral campaign, his transparent and obviously self-serving resignation which was almost certainly approved of by the party, and his position on the EU (especially now that MPs look to get a say) have made him a pretty toxic candidate. But we'll see!

  • It's odd that they consider Labour to be pro EU (I don't know anything about the candidate)

They seem to be all about the brexit right now, desperate to hang on to their seat in't North

  • I think he's got a good chance. Who else are they going to vote for? There's no Tory candidate, I can't imagine the Labour candidate will do much except split the anti Goldsmith vote. The Lib Dems might make a good showing

  • They'll vote for the Lib Dems - who held the riding until Goldsmith won it in 2010.

  • They held the seat until 2010 didn't they, they should very much be in the running given the focus on brixshit.

  • There's also an argument being made (by Lib Dems) that Brexit is what led to the decision to approve the Heathrow expansion ("Britain's open for business!"). If that sticks the one thing he has going for him will be chipped away at even more.

  • Fair enough, though it's hard to say no to free money for the rest of your life :)

What can the royals do? Are they allowed to speak up and say Murdoch should GTFO and the press needs standards, or is that being too political?

  • I think if Tim Farron wasn't perceived as a bit of a non-entity (and of course if the Lib Dems hadn't been the plaything of Cameron and Osborne throughout the coalition years) then their candidate would stand a better chance. But we'll see.

  • not without looking like a bit of a hypocrite. as such, they should probably just keep their mouths shut and get on with the tiring business of playing dress up and living in castles.

  • I hope so, but the lib dems before 2010 probably seem like a different proposition to today's.

  • rikki fredo?

  • I don't quite understand the link between the monarchy (weirdness, cos you get cash by birth, it's the 20th century), him being rich and the gutter press here I think.

Sure, the gutter press sells a lot of papers with all this monarchy lark, but does that money go to them? And is there even anything they can do about it, cos newspapers will always see monarchy as newsworthy even if they're respectful?

It would be way, way better IMHO to say harassing everyone, his GF, judges etc. is wrong instead of making it about just him/his circles.

  • separated at birth.

    or

    paternity test required.

    you decide.

  • i guess my point was more a lazy attempt to suggest they're all part of the same self-perpetuating establishment.

on a separate note, it's worth remembering that PH like s to dress up like a nazi, use the word 'paki' and 'raghead'. frankly, any opining from him on the matter of racism should be treated with suspicion.

  • Aaaw, he takes after his grandda... :)

"Scottish government seeks to intervene in Brexit case"

Scotland is not fucking about. Not sure how much of a chance they have the NI court case of giving us some say was defeated, but I like the fighting talk.
