  • Wasn't aware of that, but anyway I thought one of the main Brexit motivations was free trading with everyone (where possible) so why charge vat on imports from China?

Only way you're going to avoid paying VAT on imports is if you're part of a customs union. We used to be part of a customs union with 27 of our largest trading partners. It's called the EU.

  • Trust me, nothing much has changed...

  • Or if you are in a Freeport, then you can be a superpower or some such twaddle.

  • Hard to get the oil to Jersey by plane tho...

  • If we annex France, i want a place in Burgundy.

  • Could the Channel Islands decide that they’d rather be French?

  • I think the French view on tax evasion differs a lot from the British Government's views.

  • But think how awesome it would be for the Barclay brothers to have to pay French tax as a direct result of driving Brexit.

  • French tax sounds like a 40s Soho euphemism.

  • I pay my French tax every morning in the shower.

  • That would be amazing.

If they did become French would they carry on pronouncing French words in an English accent? I found that so odd. It's like listening to a well spoken Del Boy.

  • That's incorrect. You're muddled between cause and effect. The changes in non EU VAT are a result of leaving the EU. The charging of VAT on Chinese imports is a UK policy to prevent Chinese sellers undercutting domestic suppliers by 20%. HMRC has been playing whackamole for some time on this.

  • One of them is dead.

Edit.. the nephews seem even worse

  • Which is why we’re making zero checks on the border for ground freight and haven’t been since 1st Jan. or something

  • . Pocket post .

  • With the last war and Churchill sycophancy I think Tories are missing a trick here. They can market this as World War 3, bring back Churchill cosplay. Send Laurence Fox on the front lines to talk to the troops. Ration tubeless sealant.

  • Bring it back? Did the cosplay ever stop?

  • Is the UK being unfair to French fishers? France claims there is new paperwork not agreed on.

Cutting the power, well, gunboats won't help against that 😁 France likes the drama though I think, I mean, can those two not talk like grown ups...

Meanwhile Norway walked out if fishing as the UK reneged on a "roll over treaty" and wanted a new one with worse conditions for Norway.

Honestly...how and why did they mess up so badly??? But gunboat goes pew pew! I guess.

  • They should have sent HMS Prince of Wales in - that went so well last time

  • wanted a new one with worse conditions for Norway

Is this just the UK government trying to play hardball and just overplaying its hand or is it more something to do with them trying to ruin the UK because of corporate interests?

  • I suspect very handy to send “gunboats” the day of an election ... 😑

  • This is the result of the UK doing to France what it did to Norway- attempting to unilaterally re-write a fishing agreement in the UK’s favour.

Norway said a) fuck you and b) see you in court. The French have responded with a) ou sont votre electricite? b) see you in court.

  • Agreed, but I thought one of the goals of Brexit was allowing UK to have free trading with the all world! Now as soon as we leave we start enforcing VAT charges on imports from China!? Oh... the irony...

  • Gunboats you say?

Francois is VERY excited, Raab’s got his scuba gear on, Shapps has gone undercover and Bridgen is cracking one out

  • France, being part of the EU are not allowed to make any unilateral deals with UK or anyone. After 5 years of this mess and UK didn't even grasp that simple detail yet?
