The story seems to be just that he had a plastic cup and they didn't want to see him drinking from a plastic cup (possibly because less eco-friendly option than a ceramic mug). Being circulated because people want to laugh at Boris. Laudable aim, not much to see.

Yey, more keckhanded border plans.
-
• #24283
Am I right in thinking that to solve the border issue they have decided to have an extra border?
-
• #24284
Possibly four, or even six borders.
-
• #24285
Is that a different border for meat and veg, then one for industrial goods, then one for other things? That doesn't have 'exponential complexity' written all over it.
-
• #24286
And exponential complexity means countless loopholes, like the tax system - almost as if it were designed that way...
-
• #24287
I also like the requirement for the lorry to pop in to see the customs control post staff, have a cup of tea and a quick scan of the documents before then heading through the border and doing the same thing. No one will abuse that, and the EU is bound to be 100% fine with a huge hole in the Single Market for us to pour dangerous tat into.

It is all bullshit May and others tried better (but still imperfect plans) as others have said, it is all to to ensure he can blame the EU for "not cooperating"
But it is absurd to expect ROI to set up a zone for the benefit of the UK with the UK giving essentially nothing back in return (aside from all the other issues) cos em cough sovereignity of ROI.
Meanwhile, ROI is hiring custom check officers, and is deploying a new armed police unit (there've been several bombs near the border), and the UK border guards are abusing terrorism powers to do passport checks on ferries and have stripsearched the Irish partner of a mate of mine in Belfast Lanyon Place station...just for wanting to get on the Enterprise train to Dublin.
WAY to get a potentially escalating situation :(
Ugh. anyways the irish border on twitter https://twitter.com/borderirish?lang=en addresses all this with more levity and humour than angeryme can and is worth following :)

there've been several bombs near the border
Ones that have gone off? I've not heard about this, it's incredible.
I doubt there's many other borders in the world (Israel?) where bombs exist as something that needs management, yet it's a non issue. It would ususally be the subject of grand politicing, great celebration and Nobel prizes to address it, yet none of our lot are the least bit interested.

so far:
Lyra McKee young journalist from Derry shot dead by a bullet meant for the police. New IRA scumbags linked to Soaradh party did it, the area really helped the police but the guy has not been found (yet?)
A bomb left in Belfast near a golf club meant for the police
A mortar bomb left in a garden near the border luckily spotted in time
Another bomb meant to be found by police luckily spotted in timeSo none have gone off yet as the Gardai/PSNI and people living near the border are very careful.
And as you say, they don't care. Neither does the DUP who voted against the Good Friday Agreement. Blair with all his faults got a good team to negotiate the peace (RIP Mo Mowlan and others) and they are willing to piss it all up the wall.
It's pure depressing...

Relax everyone, Scottish Secretary Alister Jack - presumably wearing “Keep Calm & Carry On” y-fronts under his tweed breeks - has got this:
“I don’t subscribe to this theory that very much different is going to happen. I think the ports will all continue to flow much as they do now, to be honest. The idea that suddenly we’re not going to get medicines in, or all these other ridiculous scaremongering stories – I can’t see why.”
-
• #24292
Obviously not even believing his own government's briefing or the head of Dover (experts >>) who forecast losing £1bn a week. Twat.
-
• #24293
So none have gone off yet
What about this one?
Bomb detonates near Northern Ireland border
An explosive device
described as an attempted trap for security forces detonated in a
village on the Northern Ireland border on Monday, but failed to injure
anyone. -
• #24296
Sorry my mistake.
Should have said no injuries...yet.
Actually there was one found in /Derry was well, another trap for the police that was spotted in time and defused.
-
• #24297
But it'll cost the country £1 billion a month if we surrender!
Seriously. Are they just plucking these numbers from anyold where?
-
• #24298
The £1 Billion per month is made up of 3 and a bit times the £350 million that we pay to the EU per week.
The fact that it also chips away at the £39 billion that we have also agreed, or that the £350 million was a lie is neither here nor there, £1 Billion is a big number, as any fule knoes

Works better if read in your best Begbie voice.
And I can't argue with this.
