  • From the Times:

I'm sure they had a cunning plan.

  • Is services trade easy?

Trump is also an isolationist and Boeing tried to do in Bombardier, last time it got that far the EU helped the UK as a member state.

I'm not confident the USA will have a benevolent deal, it looks like sell ylur NHS / eat the chlorine chicken.

  • The UK can’t do that without ripping up its international treaty obligations.

Of course, we could renege on these, but it’s not a great way to start our new existence- international pariah.

The Irony of arguing about risks of other countries not wanting to trade with us if we break a trade agreement that stops us trading with them in the first place. :)

  • We trade with the US at the moment, and indeed everyone else - due to the agreements that we have right now. There is nothing stopping us.

If we stay as we are there is zero risk.

One of the biggest problems with Brexit is that it's worse, in every measurable way, than what we have right now.

I think, and this is meant politely, that you need to look into this a little bit more deeply than you currently have done.

  • No it's not. UK banks selling services in the US have USA offices and licenses to do that. Unregulated services like IT is easier.

Anyone who think a trade deal with the USA is going to benefit us think again. The Americans don't do favours in trade for anyone. There a reason why they are rich. Trade with the USA is not on WTO terms anyway. There is a big bunch of agreements which ease shipping and customs checks. So a trade deal will just enhance access to the protected bits of each other markets. Oh and American cars might get a bit cheaper.

I'll save duties on rock n roll lubes I suppose but that 5%. We want EU farm products, the Americans can keep there's except there wine. What's more likely post brexit of it happens which is looking more unlikely, is we will cut deals on certain sectors like cars, wine e.t.c and leave out health care and farm products. A deal on those will take a lot of time and probably won't happen of labour are on power

  • If we leave with Mays deal then it'll mean a customs union under the backstop/to replace the backstop, so the independent trade policy is bunkum.

Leave with no-deal and the backstop will be a requirement for any trade deal with the EU, which has to be the priority over any other deal as it represents the majority of our trade.

Basically, a trade deal with the US is only ever going to happen if the nutters are 100% in charge, and there aren't enough of them.

  • Anyone who think a trade deal with the USA is going to benefit us think again.

Particularly under Trump, who sees all negotiations as a zero-sum game where only one person profits. Which might be true in a dodgy real estate deal but it's a really stupid way to think of trade agreements.

  • I don't think we will ever leave. A two extension then a 40 year extension. It would be a miracle if MPs decide on a course of action this week and follow through.

  • Wow, she’s doing it. Never thought she’d have the guts. Article 50 being revoked and a GE being called for May 10th. Announcement in the house due 11am.

I suppose by revoking it ahead of an election she can claim fresh authority to reinvoke it after the election, once she wins of course.

  • Er.. link?

  • Check the date. :)

  • On April 1st as well, who'd have thought it.

  • Bollocks :) In my defense it's still Sunday this side of the pond.

  • Well ...

    https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/apr/01/proposal-for-healing-tsar-to-reunite-britain-after-brexit

Over-written, I think, squeezing a not-very-good idea for too much.

  • That sounds like April fools to me too.

  • Hahaha! Just got my sister with almost the same thing.

  • Arrrghhhhh you toss pot!

  • In the category "not a joke": The Settled Status app has been developed in The Netherlands* so em, the UK government couldn't find a local coding shop?

Maybe a sorta joke after all...

*not something to be too proud of with some of the small but stupid bugs in it. Other issues are no doubt due to the lack of good user requirements/underfunding and other usuals in app dev.

  • I bet that was much harder than it could have been with a UK company.

I can well imagine personal or test data is probably quite restricted in this kind of stuff anyway, and they would have had to have also contended with the fact that they were giving it to a company in a (soon to be) undefined trade region :)

  • Arrrghhhhh you toss pot!

    Mark all read tho...

  • Mark all read tho...

you can eff off with that shit again!

  • Unfortunately no, because when you register you have to sign away data protection. It clearly states information will be shared with 3rd parties, and it is not clear who it gets shared with.

You expect a share with HMRC to look up your info, but it is not clear who else is in the list.

  • Check the date. :)

    Check the forumenger.

  • This is Steve Baker refuting the claim that the ERG has refused to compromise since 2016
