  • Not sure whether to laugh or cry.
"Never before has a world power elected to amputate various limbs in front of its horrified friends, half-heartedly glue some of them back together at those friends' behest, and re-sever them immediately afterwards."

  • anyone that works for Rothermere or Murdoch

    Fixed.

The ultimate responsibility lies with the man who employs Dacre.

Gove using puppy smuggling to sell Brexit 🙄

  • Time to move on to the next stage of the negotiations

  • From todays Guardian:

"The cabinet is yet to have a substantive discussion about any future trade arrangement with the bloc."

Another jaw dropping statement amongst the hundreds of others by/about this government.

  • It's understandable though - the cabinet is completely dominated by Cakists, with a few realists salting the mix. I suspect the Cakists would carry the day and May knows that she'd then have to go to the EU and ask for full single market access with none of the concomitant commitments - and get laughed out of the negotiating room.

That needs to happen, has to happen for the Cakists to be forced to confront reality, but my suspicion is that that is best done as close to the cliff edge as possible in order to give them no time to come up with a plan b.

  • May could realise that the only way she can defeat the cakist wing of her party is by getting a commons consensus for a Norway type agreement with the EU. She’s need to build bridges to do that though, but it’s clear a majority of MPs would support that position.

  • She'll need to stop Davis from dynamiting all those bridges first.

  • I think the main benefit of a Norway style agreement is that we are free to make our own trade deals with the rest of the world.

  • norway has a shit ton of oil reserves. we have alton towers.

  • Norway have also invested their oil revenues in a sovereign wealth fund to benefit future generations of Norwegians. We’ve pissed ours up against the wall by funding tax cuts with it.

  • She should sack him, Fox and Johnson now. Reassert her power.

If they want to get rid of her then they’ll have a general election to contend with too.

  • If she were going to do that, she's had ample opportunity before now. She won't and it's a huge sign of her weakness that she doesn't.

  • We even send our rubbish to Norway for them to use it as energy.

  • Do you think they could find a use for David Davis?

  • They send us a Christmas tree each year.

  • Varadkar: "Ireland is very grateful for the level of solidarity shown by other EU member states - they’ve stood by us, not withstanding that the UK is a major economic and military power"

"The reason why the EU got a good outcome in the talks so far is because of European unity"

  • Varadkar on trade deal with UK:

"You can't have unfettered free trade unless you agree some sort of common set of rules... the idea that you can have free trade on the one hand, and unfettered control of your own rules on the other, just doesn't work"

  • Is 'smooth and orderly' the new 'strong and stable'?

  • 'deep and special' apparently.

    Mince pie thread...?

  • Do you think they could find a use for David Davis?

Could be another Private Eye column, like 101 uses for a John Major...

  • Juncker - Trade talks will begin in March.
May - Trade talks will begin straight away.

    FFS.

  • Who to believe?

  • Death threats to Grieve and emails to Soubry:

One, from a man in Tonbridge, Kent – about 150 miles from Soubry’s Broxtow constituency – read: “You deserve to be HUNG for your attack on our democracy yesterday. WE VOTED OUT! OUT! OUT!” The writer, who gave his full address and telephone number, ended the email: “MAY YOU BURN IN HELL FOR ETERNITY.”

What the fuck is wrong with people?

  • we have alton towers.

That's owned by a Dubai investment fund, isn't it?
