In honesty they’ve told a lot of normal customers that they are too busy or that they need new parts recently. Covid means they’re selling a lot of bikes but it won’t continue forever and they’ve lost a lot of custom over their picky attitude.

Did you buy the tyres from them?
-
• #3704
No, but that's not usually a barrier for them, you pay workshop rates anyway when they fit parts you buy in the shop.
-
• #3705
It's a bad, bad sign when someone shows up with a pair of tyres and pair of wheels saying 'can you help me I can't get these on', particularly if the wheels and tyres are supposedly decent kit and none of it was bought from the shop.

I went to Morzine for a week's MTB action a few years ago. One of the guys was super-excited about being in the alps for the first time and within 30 minutes of us arriving went on a buying spree in the LBS purchasing two new tyres which were on offer at a great discounted price as well as some other bits.
We headed back to the chalet and he and another one of the guys spent about 90 minutes trying to get them onto the rim unsuccessfully until a third person pointed out that they were trying to mount 26" tyres on 650B wheels.
The LBS owner happily refunded him for the tyres but charged him full RRP for the correct 650B replacement set...

I watched 2 lifetime mechanics spend 20 minutes wrestling a Gp5000TL onto a new Mavic wheel yesterday - if someone brought their own wheels and tyres into the shop and wanted help getting them on I expect I would tell them it’s a case of leaving them with us and we do them when we get chance. (Quoting 2-3 weeks for minor repairs)
There’s been a massive cycling boom, the cycle shops that are still trading are under pressure and stressed after 12 weeks of madness, I don’t think it’s unreasonable that they declined to help - they’ve probably got a mountain of higher priority things they need to get on with.

WTB Nanos on Hunt x 4 Season rims. Went on a dream and seated using only a trackpump. Tanwalls too.

Watch me get major blowouts on their first ride now
-
• #3710
I'm pretty sure if you seat properly without sealant that is unlikely.
Most of the blowouts I've seen are from people who've added sealant before seating the tyre.

trying to get some GP5000TL onto new lightbicycle rims. Struggled

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're doing okay at the moment and I don't have an issue with being told they're busy, the bike shop nearest my office said that when I called them. It was more the "GP5000TL? Not a chance, not ever" sort of thing I found odd. In honesty, shitty customer service is a hallmark of Luxembourg small business so it's par for the course.

• #3713
Yeah... should have paid more attention to it though.

So it wasn’t the tape after all, classic porous tyre problem...

Sometimes telling the customer that what they're trying to do can't be done is the best policy.
When you're doing your own work, you're responsible for everything. As soon as you hand it over to somebody else, they have to consider before starting how they are going to deal with the situation in which the operation was a success but the patient died.

My fancy new DT Swiss wheels came tubeless ready with Milkit valves, but no injector.
Can I just use the injector that came with my Orange seal or do I need to buy the Milkit one?

Can be done though.. and has been :)

You could say that about heart transplants, but some people still die.
-
• #3720
The better analogy for this situation though would be someone needing a heart transplant and a heart surgeon who has the skills and ability to do the operation says "Nah, don't fancy doing that really, it's a bit hard".
Anyway, it's sorted now.
-
• #3721
Or somebody who doesn't need a transplant asking for one anyway, and the surgeon refusing to do it 🙂
-
• #3722
Or a guy turning up with a donor heart that isn't really suitable but might work.

If it fits through the "valveless valve hole" until you can feel it in the tyre, you'll be fine. MilkIt injector looks like this:

Definitely seated - both wheels made the distinctive "pinging" sound as they were inflated. Put the sealant in after seating and releasing the air/removing valve core. Will see how they fare tomorrow morning

Thanks. Hmm, the pipe only fits around the valve hole, it's too wide to fit through the valve hole and through the rubber seal thingy even with the valve removed.
I think I need a narrower pipe? I need two more valves for another set of wheels, so I'd be quite happy to buy the injector kit with valves which I think is what I need really. Only thing is my tyres are arriving tomorrow and there's no way I'm going to get that for the weekend now so I can fit them. Doh.
this is a little funny (sorry).
