• If you've taken them off and on the rims a couple of times it's possible that the bead is stretched. Moar tape might solve it if you dont want to bin the tyres yet and keep them tubeless.

  • That could be, once I switched from back to front and then again after a flat, and now because of cleaning reasons. Maybe I’ll get a new one, or even two.

  • Somebody posted a video of half mounting tubeless tyres before inflation a few pages ago, works well for baggy tyres. Alternatively, mount one side with a tube. And of course more tape.

  • Anyone used Dynaplug Air? Good/bad?

  • Fancy going tubeless on the gravel bike I’m building, rims are a Mavic a119 and an a719. Tyres will be gravelking sk.

I’ve tried ghetto setups in the past on mtbs with not much luck but currently have the front wheel in one of my bikes set up tubeless as the rim came with a tubeless tape and that was a breeze and has held pressure fine.

What’s my best route for a hassle free set up? Finding a solid plastic tape in the right size for my rim?

  • Best route for hassle free setup is start with a kinlin tubeless rim. Sorry but those mavic rims are not for tubeless tyres and it's going to be faff and if you flat them more faff
So faff at the start followed by potential faff. Oh if you let you tyres go flat by not pumping them up then your going to get faff.

So its just going to be faff.

  • This has probably been asked a load of times, but what are people carrying in terms of tubeless repair on the road. I've got a kit for MTB but I'd rather not have it in my pocket as it's a bit chunky and it's too big for the saddle pack.

  • Read the title of the thread, slowly

  • I did. Other than "Tyre worms and insertion tool" there are no specifics beyond a reference to spotter's kit which is too big (read my post, slowly). As it was unclear, I'm looking for a specific recommendation as to what/how people are carrying as I know already that twiglets and the insertion tool are needed.

  • I don't see why tubeless gets off the hook for repeated questions. Every other fucking question was asked on her 100x before getting merged to fuck. Oh the glory days!

  • Some podcast glowing mentioned Dynaplug Air, which is why I asked about them above. If nothing else Dynaplug look like a cool Bond gadget.

  • I was looking at the dynaplug racer actually. Seems pretty small but the Air (other than being expensive) looks like I could at least swap out the CO2 inflator I've got in my pack.

  • I still haven't use my TL wheels in anger. I'm just eying up repair options in case I can race Badlands next year. I don't really want to use CO2 but with TL it kinda makes sense.

  • Can't you use your oversized fatbike megapump?

  • You mean the Lezyne mini track pump I was thinking about getting? Not owning it yet, I have no idea. I do now own a home track pump with a booster cylinder for TL but it's as big as my bike.

  • The Dyna plug air doesn't look super useful as it has no flow control, so you are in danger of over-inflating your tires. I presume if you use it without the canister, the tool will get quite quickly gunked up with sealant.

  • Quickly is relative I think. If you're fixing tubeless punctures daily I think you might have a point but in that case I'd guess something is wrong. As for overinflation, loads of CO2 inflators have no real control so you're at no more risk and you'd always have the valve to take some pressure out if you were concerned about blowing the tyre off the rim due to rim damage etc.

That said, I'd go for their Racer or MicroPro models because the extra cost doesn't seem to be justified over a simpler solution with a CO2 inflator separate.

  • Pretty sure I read somewhere that people were using it (the lyzen floor drive) to do hotel room tubeless installations, so presumably itd be ok on the trail.

  • Cool. Would be good to try one out. I still haven't played around with my gravel TL tyres yet so much swearing yet to enjoy with or without track pump. :)

  • The Stans NoTubes DART looks good too. About the size of a CO2 canister.

  • The Dart thing does appear to be a game changer for road, I will be getting one

  • I heard someone in the cross race at frylands bigging up these things. They appear fairly knowledgeable and have even used it in anger when the tyre needed repair. From what I overheard (he's a bigger, faster boy who wins points) he liked it and was recommending the shit out of it.

  • Topeak have a new plug kit out that is half the size of a mini pump in a anodises tube.

  • Looking at their 2020 products they've also got a mini-tool with the required stuff for tubeless (reamer, insertion tool, knife) which looks a good option
