I've used Victoria hypers 40c as tubeless with relative success. A lot of faffing to get them seal, but fast and supple

Sidewall tear on the rear at Llandegla yesterday, wouldn't seal. Rolling down the hills with all my weight over the front wheel to catch up with the guy with the tube was interesting. Must buy wormy things.

Was in Cloud 9 bikes yesterday and bought one of these:

Like a mini version of the MTB style one that i previously near ruined a tyre with.
Let's see how this goes...

Also - brown wall gravel kings are now in stock.
If I run them tubeless at 70ish psi on proper tubeless ready rims will they explode and kill me?
-
• #1382
From my own experience, they explode at 80psi :-P
But I usually inflate mine (32mm) between 40 and 50psi ; I've done 6000 km with it and never had any trouble yet. -
• #1383
Not all rims can hold the same pressure. I inflated S-Ones to 100 psi on Stans grail and they hold just fine. Wouldn't hit the road with that, but sometimes I go up to 70 for fast tarmac riding, still no problems even with some dents in the rim

Dt Swiss r 24s + gravel kings @ 70psi = death?
-

gravel king
Which Gravel King? The only tubeless 700C one I can see is a minimum 38C, and if you're fat enough to need 5 bar in a 38, you're too fat for R24s.
-
• #1386
You'll probably die in a explosion of white stuff anyways, 70 psi is far too much with big tires. Not the same rim but wouldn't be too far of

DT spec is 5.7 bar for 37mm tyres and 5.5 bar for 40mm, so R24s should take it. Mine only have to tolerate 5 bar F / 6 bar R with 28mm tyres and that's plenty for 115kg all up weight. 38mm tyres at 5 bar is a rear tyre setting for 130kg all up.

Is that for tubeless? Seems like a lot to me... Not that going that high in a 40c tyre makes any sense

That's the #whatpressureyourunning I'm running right now with tubeless Schwalbe Pro One on R24s. It's certainly not going up from there, I think I might even have already gone down half a bar last time out. I used to run 38s on the Pompetamine at 4 bar tubed with about 10kg less lard, but that was a stiff setting for racing on tarmac. If I was going for the same squish as the muddy day setting on the MTB, 38s would come out 2.2 bar F / 3 bar R at my current weight. In the end, as long as you don't exceed the manufacturers limits, there's plenty of room for personal taste.

Just tries setting up a non tubeless araya tx733 Rim with Schwalbe tubeless tape + g-one 38c went easier than what I expected, wheels easily held pressure and bead locked with a track pump.
Add some specialized sealant and let's see if the combo held up for the night.

Sadly no clearance for 38c on my bowman pilgrims. Can just about squeeze 28c with guards on.
Currently running an old pair of pro ones in 25c but am conscious that Winter is coming...

So two punctures yesterday have persuaded me to investigate tubeless at last. What's the recommended 'fast audax' 28c tubeless tyre - Pave equivalent? Schwalbe Pro One seems to be well regarded but I can't find them in stock anywhere.
-
• #1394
Bike24 have them
-
• #1395
Perfect, thanks.
Not to be one of those people, but recommendations for valves and gloop? My rims (WTB i-23) are already taped.
-
• #1396
Stans valves were an ass to fit in my i-19's. Never had a problem with Stans rims. But maybe is me being unlucky/useless.
If you go up 30 you may consider S-Ones, slower but tougher than Pro ones -
• #1397
Orange Seal Endurance Sealant has saved at least two punctures on my road bike, with 25c Pro One tyres.
Effetto valves are good. Definitely work on the i23 as I built a set up at the weekend

28c
Bear in mind that the 25C Pro One is actually going to be well over 28mm wide on your 23mm rims.

• #1399
I've got decent clearance with 27c Paves, I'll take a gamble.

I put glitter in mine at the weekend..I am not sure it was a good idea... The valve felt gritty when putting the core back in. I am also terrified now that I often run my tubeless at too high a pressure.
They sound great. Seems like probably slightly slower than G-ones, but way more durable. Just what I was looking for! Now just got to wait until they release the tanwall ones they had on show at Eurobike!
