Yet another crash on Brixton Hill:
-
• #53
Almost a crash on the same bit of road a few days ago, so many irresponsible drivers about.
-
• #54
And this, close to Brixton Hill:
A hit-and-run after hitting a small child.
-
• #55
Like 50 yards from that just the other side of the school.

A very sad pedestrian death:
It shouldn't make any difference, but to have lived to 90 and then to be killed like that ...
-
• #57
In addition to the three cyclist deaths and serious injuries recently, there have also been a lot of pedestrian deaths, affecting all ages.
The article about the teenager doesn't say whether he was on foot or on a bike, but I suppose we'll soon find out.

I think a pedestrian's been killed by a cement lorry outside my work just now. Buckingham Palace Road is closed off by Victoria Coach Station. Looks like it happened near the pedestrian refuge/island in the middle.

I went past just after it happened emergency services giving CPR to the man on the floor, cement lorry stopped in the junction. Horrible.
The lorry was travelling south on BPR. -

Yet another pedestrian death:
This is in addition to the riders killed recently. :(

Not London, but this forum has members in the Isle of Man, too ( @andy.w ). Yet more deaths in the Isle of Man:

There are deaths in the IoM TT very regularly.

Not great reading.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Snaefell_Mountain_Course_fatalitiesThis only shows those involved in the races, not the spectators, locals, and tourists that got a little caught up in things.
6 in total so far this year. -

Thanks, I knew there were a lot of victims, but I didn't know how many. It seems like the number one IoM road danger reduction issue?

Three years and seven months for this driver:
-
• #65
No license / insurance and (knowingly?) can't see properly, yet still 'only' qualifies as careless driving. Makes me wonder what he would have to have done for a dangerous driving charge. The law, as ever, is an ass.

This is a bad time for pedestrian crashes:
The A406 North Circular Road is, of course, very difficult to cross on foot.
-
• #67
Indeed,
It's our biggest and arguably our only tourist attraction, and no national speed limit/watch where you want is part of the attraction.New sponsors next year which may see a few changes for the racers but not for when the roads are open to the public.

A crash noteworthy for yet another reason:
The mind boggles.

Thanks for the link. I understand that for motorsport fans it's a great spectacle, but I find the death toll invalidates all that. It's almost as if the deaths have become routine there.
-
• #71
Very much so.
We do home stay and so far have been lucky, the visitors staying next door lost one of their friends this year about 6 hours after they arrived.
My better half met them outside the hospital, heartbreaking scenes. I didn't envy them in making the phone calls they had to make.
They've agreed to be part of the road safety campaign for next years event. -

Oh God, that's awful.

It's very clear that there is much work required, still.

Not sure if this is the right place to leave this, but this campaign seems to be gaining a bit of media attention. The views of the parents in this case mirror a lot of what people say "on here" about killer drivers. I hope they manage to achieve some progress.
I worked at South Quay in '96 when that numpty drove into Blackwall in a truck that was too high. Tower Bride was closed at the same time I think. East London was gridlocked for 24 hours.
