  • After many years contemplating an orange Condor Tempo the demise of the colour scheme has forced me to jump but I'm not ready for SPD sandals or audax yet.
    In that time I've put over 14,00 miles into a Trek T1 which has 23c tyres and Crud guards, it's not a comfy ride, so the plan is to build the perfect fixed pro-mmuter but with some twists;

    1. Disc brake up front;
    2. Power meter at the back;
    3. 25-28c tyres and full guards.

    This will be built onto this Tempo frame and Fratello disc fork;

    Have plenty of bits on the donor bike, including;
    Rear Wheel: Powertap//H+ Son Archetype//CX-Ray
    Chainset: SRAM S300
    Bars: Cinello Lola
    Brake Lever: Cane Creek 200tt

    Need quite a few things but am decided on the front wheel/braking setup;
    Front Wheel: Hope Pro4 Disc hub//H+ Son Archetype
    Front brake: Juan Tech R1

    *Warning* this is going be a slow build.

  • Nice, thinking of doing a similar thing with my Dedacciai fixed gear. Just too cheap to buy a proper disc fork and too scared to buy a £30 aliexpress one. I'll be watching this with interest!

  • Also looking forward to this one, not too slow please.

  • Looks interesting. Haven't seen too many good fixed + disc brakes builds. This might well be one.

    Are condor ditching their orange colour scheme for all their frames? It doesn't sound like a great business decision, it must be their best selling colour.

  • Ps: did you buy the fork direct from Condor?

  • It's still available on the Fratello but no longer the Tempo, I can't say for certain they are phasing it out but agree, it's a great colour.

  • Frame + fork at the same time for a great price, they even put me on the jig to give me some measurements, most impressed. I believe you can buy the fork on it's own, heard rumours it is around £150.

  • How's the build going Pete? Still loving mine :D

    @TurtleRecall I have a Kinesis DC37 if you're after a disc fork...

  • Steady, have recently acquired an Archetype rim and Hope hub, just need to find a local builder or use Ugos recommended replacement.

    Will order a chainring, chain and cog soon. Might have to splash out on a Thompson stem, looks ace, is that -10 degrees?

    Still looking at finishing this around September but you've saved me any pressure from anyone on here wanting to know what it's like!

  • Yep, stem is Thomson Elite X2 31.8mm
    10 Degree, 90mm

  • Woop, it nearly resembles a bike. Disc wheel is getting built up then only need the rest of the drive train bits.

  • Bit of a battle with the front guard but it's finally (nearly) finished. Need to cut the mudguard stays down and fit some bigger 28c tyres, then fini.

  • Cool looking brake

  • Just found this thread, lots of inspiration for my next build!

    @spinout - how do you find the Juin R1?

  • Real good, I've no other baseline to compare but they are super simple to setup and quick to adjust with a nifty dial

    Thoroughly enjoy having it on miserable winter days.

  • Thanks. I've got an Avid BB7 on a Pearson Touche which has been nearly faultless, but it's seen a lot of miles and I think it deserves an upgrade.

    Choices, choices, do I upgrade the Touche (similar setup to yours above) or significantly change my Tempo (free to fixed, callipers to disc brake)... Might have to start a project thread...

  • I think @duncs who owns the other Fixie Disc Tempo (above) upgraded from a BB7 or similar. I'm sure that the Juin R1 is a nice improvement, what with being semi-hydraulic vs fully cable.

    The only other issue is that you have to buy them in pairs. I managed to go halves with @duncs

  • @pjhobson
    Yep, I had a BB7 Road SL on mine before (pic above was with the BB7)

    Also had a Kinesis DC37 fork before Condor released their disc fork but it was a bit agricultural. Proper Condor fork suits it much better.

    Disc fork was £150 I think when bought separately, and as @spinnnout said, went halves on the pair of Juin Techs. Also been very pleased with them. Not a massive upgrade from a BB7 but less faff adjusting.

  • Handy this rose to the top: I bought a 2015 Tempo at the end of last year and also plan to stick a disc on the front.

    I intended to use a Kinesis DC37, until it was pointed out that it was a CX fork and had a greater A-C measurement. It seems the Fratello fork is the only decent option at the moment.

    I was going to use a converted disc hub on the rear (for a bolt-on sprocket), but have a wired Power Tap doing nothing: do you know how yours was converted to fixed?

  • It's a track specific Power Tap with 120mm spacing

  • Thanks all for the info. Will post a FS and see if anyone fancies splitting a pair of Juin R1.

    I've got a Kinesis DC19 on the Tempo, old school!

    Went out for a spin today on the Tempo (https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/278632/) for the first time in a while, don't think I can bring myself to change it. Time to upgrade the Touche!

  • Nice build

  • Nice build!
    As for the R1, keep the second caliper for when this one dies!
    I had a pair : one of them "stuck" after a while ie. the pistons didn't retract.
    The other one still works, but the barrel adjuster is notoriously weak (broke on of them, bent on the other)

  • Sorry for dredge.
    What is rear spacing on this and max tyre width?
    Edit
    120 mm spacing innit

  • yup 120mm rear and was OK running 32c Gravel King SKs, no longer own it so can't measure the absolute max
