  • Very cool 👍

  • Nice! Looking forward to seeing it in all its glory

First proper ride will be the dunwich dynamo this Saturday!

  • does anyone have a rim brake road logic frame in a 55cm they want to sell me? Cheers in advance!

  • I timed myself breaking down the bike and packing it up, 23:31 which i don’t think is too bad. Opted to remove the brakes, rather than just un attaching the cables which hopefully will make life easier the other end. Pleased I didn’t need to remove the stem. Current weight is 18kg, should be able to get my shoes in and my clothes, but it’ll be push the weight limit.

I’m going to have to write a check list on the inside of the box, I’m bound to forget something like QR Skewers or pedals.

  • Is this the break-away bag that ritchey make or another brand?

  • No it’s an s&s coupler hard case

  • Where did you get it from?

  • I got mine second hand along with the frame. The guy had a couple of travel bikes and wanted to keep the Ritchey bag.

They are available but not cheap

  • £600?? sheeeeshhhh.

And I thought the ritchey ones were expensive — they are like half that right?

  • I’ve not seen the Ritchey one for sale on its own. I guess they’re kind of a niche thing.

S&S also do a similar soft bag like the Ritchey. Still not what I’d call cheap.

  • The Ritchey survived the flight and I didn’t forget anything. Didn’t feel great this morning so only managed a short ride. Still ended up doing a 1600 foot climb, my previous highest being just over 600 feet.

Early start tomorrow and Sa Calobra!

  • How annoying you reckon having a 2x would be for taking apart/ putting back together?

Obvious answer is E tap I guess

  • E tap

This is what I have on my breakaway frame. Can confirm it is the answer

  • I've been eyeing up a Swiss Cross for fast-ish bikepacking, since I find many gravel bikes a bit slack in the geo. If I'm gonna do a full build I reckon it would be in the +£3k range, which is a big leap without a test ride or anything of the sort.

Very tempted by this offering on eBay, just curious what the Ritchey crowd here thinks about the price and the deal.

  • I have etap and X1 on my S&S. Very happy with that setup. Builds up in 3 songs without fenders

  • Price seems a little high with how worn the frame is. All the WCS kit leans in its favour though. I got mine (frame & forks) on eBay a few years back & it was unused for £660.

They do inevitably get bashed around though, mine is a matte black now, no longer the lovely shiny thing it once was. Fab frame though, thoroughly enjoy mine.

  • That is a sick rig.

Yeah, the frame is pretty darn scruffy, but I'm assured its all cosmetic (scratches and chips only). Small dent in one rim. Problem is the bike is in Bristol, which is a bit of a trek from Hackney for a test ride. If anyone local has a 54 I could give a quick spin, I might be swayed to dive right into a £3k dream build.

Thing is the spec on the eBay one is pretty much exactly how I'd build it myself.

  • Swiss cross is the only bike I regret selling.

That one is pricey though, I sold mine (f&f) for three hundred and something I think?

  • Congrats on the build and trip, both look great

  • What handlebars?

  • I’ll be honest, I don’t think it would be a big issue, It depending on your mechanical abilities, mine are ok, but only ok. I haven’t messed around with a front mech for about 20 years.

From an aesthetic perspective, I would prefer a x2. You’d be able to fold the bike up without having to disconnect either of the cables for x2 with out any issue.

@Thrasher there ritchey butano bars, but the old ones with only a little flair, I really like them and have them all my drop bar bikes.

Majorca has kicked my arse, 1 mile here has to be worth 5 in the uk.

  • Thanks for the chance to own it, fits better than my original road logic too.

  • So I'm more keen on buying new and building my own, with a setup very similar to yours. I have a few questions though:

    1. How do you find the Swiss Cross for bikepacking?
    2. How do you find 1x for bikepacking? What's your cassette and chainring?
    3. How did you fit that third bottle cage???
  • Overall decent, done a few trips on mine now - around the Dales/Peak District multiple times, Scotland & Türkiye. I find it rides pretty well loaded up. The geometry makes for it being pretty twitchy on the road at higher speeds (I find it gets a bit sketchy going above 35mph on descents with it whereas I'd be comfortable on my road bike), but less that's important for bikepacking trips I'd imagine.

I had originally this built up as 2x, but then the shifting mechanism in the left hand shifter went kaput so was forced to go 1x. I'd prefer 2x at the end of the day, but 1x works good enough. My Croix de Fer which the Ritchey replaced was 1x & did a bunch of touring on that too, never had a problem with it if you find the gear range for you. Think I have 44x11-42T on the Swiss Cross right now which works well for me.

Third bottle cage was fitted by my local bike shop, Woodrup Cycles. Got it installed for Türkiye tour as needed to carry plenty of water. It's just a rivnut style thing so pretty straight forward.

  • I’m sure this has been asked before what what is the max tyre clearance of a circa 2009 rim break breakaway? Just curious…
