I did this too with an old Raleigh, you've got the tension of the cables holding it onto the curve of the BB shell so it should be fine.

This would probably work, but I sort of want to do it the hard way. Ship, hapeth of tar and all that.

Something like this would work and look on point:

I forgot you only do NOS ;-) - This one is better:

The various demands of work, life and family have meant that I have had precious little time to devote to this project recently.
This morning however, with no work, the Jangle-ettes out at dance class and Mrs JJ at the gym, with nervous fingers I took centre-punch, 4.2mm drill and M5 tap to my bottom bracket shell, and I now have a cable guide!

Getting close to completion:

Excellent job, well done

fucking hell JJ that is absolutely stunning
As someone who is left cold by 'vintage' looking bikes, that is absolutely out of this world.

;) lovely work btw. now get that chain and off you go!

This is amazing! Yours parts box sounds a lot different to mine. Mine has less Super Record parts and more old greasy bearings and frayed cables.

Great Scott this is stonking

Well played!

The bike looks great, the gumwalls too.
Cable wise, why is the RD outer black while the rest is all white?
Would it not look better with black hoods and black outers all around? -

This is lovely - great work!

Cable wise, why is the RD outer black while the rest is all white?
Would it not look better with black hoods and black outers all around? The RD cable outer, and the cable are genuine Campagnolo Parts that I had lying around. White cable outers are cheap after-market parts.
I am tempted to change the brake cable outers to red (maybe old-school grey), and the rd outer to the metal one. Brake hoods should possibly be gum.
I have got 'till October (L'eroica) to get this dialled in.
Also waiting on a chain which is en route from Italy.

Gum hoods would look on point.

I got the grey cable housing of that guy from eBay in the states, and had a friend bring them over when they visited. They really do look good on a vintage build.

Velo Orange make these retro styled cables, they look pretty nice https://www.velovitality.co.uk/products/velo-orange-retro-style-stainless-wound-cable-kit-brake

This morning I finally got 'round to installing the chain.
Delightful morning that it was, I rode it to work. Took a few shots on the way:
That's it, pretty much finished.
I will play around with cables and bar tape a bit, but effectively this is done - all that remains it to get it covered in Strada Bianchi!

Beautiful!

Stunning.
This may be sacrilege but can you simply glue the cable guide to the shell?
I used some contact adhesive to glue a cable guide to the BB shell of my cannondale and it's still there 2 years later.
Oh, and bike is beautiful.
