  • With that sprocket in mind are you sure you want a lower stack headset?

I usually use 12-28 (10spd) with 52/36 and it's sufficient 98% of the time but I do lot's of weekend group rides into HC and Cat 1 mountains and depending of how tired from training in the weekdays or how many days of riding the group will do it's good to have the option to go up to 32T. What's the downside of having a long cage tho? Can't really see the upside of a short cage RD tbh.

  • 11-28 should be sufficient tbh. It's similar to 10 sp 11-25 with a 28t at the back.

The point is aesthetics. 32t is mountain bike cog.

Check cane creek's headset offerings for low stack headset.

My main cassette is 11-28 so it's all good in the aesthetics department and I can still have the mid cage if I want put a 11-32T cassette ocasionaly ;)

Are the crane creek HS's good? I always think meh when I think about CC, something like FSA...

  • End of the day it's a headset

  • I'm using a short cage on my road bike and with 32 cassette and standard front double. It works perfectly despite shimano saying the max is 30. or possibly 28, can't remember

  • I think it's purely aesthetics.

    edit.

I should read other people reply's before repeating them.

  • 42t is mountain bike cog

    ftfy

  • Too much?

  • i like that, who makes it?

  • Too much?

    Nope, try it!

  • Bought the groupset, headset, pedal and handlebar. Still debating on a good budget wheelset, Ultegra WH-68000 tubeless is more or less $360 seems to be the one to beat atm.

    Shimano Dura-Ace FC-9000 cranks 11-speed without BB cups 36/52 T. 170 mm

  • Shimano 105 BR-5800 brake front black
Shimano 105 BR-5800 brake rear black

  • LOL I debated about this for quite some time, but ultegra's color is nonsense and dura ace is 5x the price of 105 and I'll be using this with Al wheels so 105 can't be faulted but I do get it :P

  • Unbelievable.

  • that's a good one.

  • Yeah, the original plan of using aluminium rims + 105 brakes went out of the window when I found a 2016 Fulcrum Racing Quattro carbon wheelset for U$900. Now I'll use a dura-ace brakeset.

  • If you're open to 2nd hand DA brakes I know someone upgrading to Hydro discs who's selling a pair of DA9000 calipers

  • Thanks for the offer @Dick but I just modified my last order to exchange the 105's for the dura ace set so it's bought and shipped. I would've loved to save some $$$ tho :-/
