Polo in the Ads

I'm done with it now, you guys can take over, here is the organisers email (melly.cook@kameleon.co.uk), the photographer is called Samara. My boss gave me the day off to do this as a favour for working hard the last two months but I think I'd rather just work now. Luca, Miles and tony are willing to do it but good luck getting them to take the day off work and not see personal gains from it.

I think the issue was more with zero discussion about it not that some people might stand to gain a bit of cash - this should really all be on the lpc or lhbpa forums @M_A_X can you change the location of all this recent chat?

Dan, try and remember that there is lots of fairly damaging history here, noones trying to have a go (well beagle was but that's up to him) but it is good to have transparency and dialogue on this stuff especially due to the mess that has happened in the past.

Remember, we all want the best for London bike polo so if you are up for promoting LPC then get involved. The next lhbpa meeting will be in mid November, time and date tbc soon.

I just want to play polo, not interested in organising this Lee Cooper thing or being part of it anymore to be honest. I wasn't ever in it for the personal gain, in fact, I only found out that there was money in it on Thursday – after I'd started finding players and agreed to do it myself. Didn't see that taking time out of my day to find players willing to take the time off was doing harm (fair enough it wasn't through the forum though I originally did try to).

Whoever takes over from here, I genuinely hope it's a success but I'm not up for getting involved with all the politics.

If I can get the opportunity to do this i will. And the funds will help me travel to New Zealand for the bike polo world championships. It's a shame this thread has ruined the idea for dan I just hope it hasn't diminished the whole idea.

Are you guys gonna be at south's tonight? Would be better to discuss in person rather than miscommunicating on the internet...

There were plenty of prompts for you to start a discussion thread about it but you didnt take any of them and yes, as Kev and Ben has pointed out, we have had situations in the past when there was lack of disclosure/discussion of what's going on which split the community when they saw the ad/campaign.

Is this part of a local or wider campaign? Unlimited use on all platforms? Have you even requested/seen the waiver form yet?

As for payments not being known, the cash amount was bandied around at throw ins last Wednesday with instructions to keep this hush hush from the masses no?

Clearly throwing toys around and name calling is much easier than replying to questions raised.

I know everything about it in terms of usage down to what stores it might be shown in and as previously stated its going through the agency I work for so of course I'll see the fucking wavering forms when the time comes, it's not going to be some 2-bit operation.

It promotes bike polo in that 95% of people you speak to still don't even know it exists and if it's being played on a video in stores across London and on the web of course it's going to get exposure.

If you were listening on Wednesday I said there was a payment of £200 but I didn't know if that was split between the 6 or each and that of confirm on the Thursday.

I am organising this now guys and it's going ahead. Publicity is good, companies recognising polo is cool is good. If anyone has any problems regarding it let me know via PM. But otherwise, as you were.

Urgh, this shit is dumb. If some polo players want to get together and make some money off their image playing a dumb made up sport, then good luck to them. They would hardly be the first.

If they want to put some of it back into the sport, great, or if they want to use it for their own purposes (especially travel to a tournament), then also great. But they shouldn't get criticised for doing so.

I didn't care that people did Adidas, or the Smart bikes, or Chunk, or any of the other things.

You're clearly out if sync with London H Bomb. Your North mates could use some help in terms of keeping the scene alive if you have any good suggestions. South meanwhile are pretty much going strong and putting our efforts towards something bigger.

Dan I understand your frustrations, but I think that you are ignoring a lot of relevant and non confrontational comments that have been made in this thread.

Luca, glad to hear that you are taking charge of it, but I don't think going incognito / pm route is necessary. This can be a place for healthy and open discussion.

Given the community based structure of bike polo (globally), I think it is appropriate that these opportunities be handled as a community. Especially considering LPC's own history with advertisers etc...

But most of all, no matter what goes down, let's not give way to frustrations (on either side). Because it is way more fun to shit talk on the court than on here.
