I'd even go as far as saying 30mm bouncy bits are more beneficial to your normal user, hence why the likes of the Specialized Sirrus sold so damned well.
They think they need it, but they don't. It's just a massive amount of extra stuff that needs servicing.
I used to think I needed a mountain bike for riding around town, I have no idea why. Maybe the perception is that road bikes aren't sturdy enough

You really don't need anything.

30mm bouncy bits are ..... Specialized Sirrus
My Sirrus is of course flatbar but no hint of suspension on the Zertz carbon fork.

I mean that i used to think that riding around town required a mountain bike. But I'd never ridden a road bike really so I had no frame of reference

Right you are, I meant the cross trail, as they used to sell in container loads.
The new Sirrus' are seriously high spec aren't they!

Nepal is very well connected indeed. May I suggest appreciating the view / talking to your guide / enjoying dal bhat etc... Arguments on the internet will still be available upon your return.

Good suggestions! Today is a rest/acclimatisation day though so we have had a lot of down time. Facebook has nothing interesting, Instagram is too data-heavy for the WiFi, so I'm reading this instead. I ought to read my book instead of the internet though
PS it's gone dark and cloudy so no views and I've already eaten!

You're in Nepal?

Where's the bounce? -

Yep,
Mine's old, external cables but has the carbon mono-seatstay. Recent ones are internal hydraulic disc brakes. -

The new Sirrus' are seriously high spec aren't they!
Kind.... of.
Most of the part are MicroSHIFT (like the shifters) to keep cost down and keep stuff like Ultegra derailleur so it can be called "high end".
