Anyone have Trek checkpoint or have ridden one and can tell me what they thought?
-
• #5879
Looks like horse shit
-
• #5880
Totally, but the Zee calipers to road levers is pretty neat.
-
• #5881
why?
There's absolutely no point in having 4 pot calipers with 35c tyres and 140mm rotors

Plus, it says 'squid' which reminds me of that mamnick Cunt.

Whats the clamp looking thing on the seat tube?
-
• #5885
Why is the outer for the rear brake so long around the headtube? Looks awful.

Cable stop for front mech.

Where does that rock lobster come from in the uk ?
-
• #5888
It doesn't look like the pad is going to fit the rotor properly either.
And why have a braise on but no cable stop?
And that hanger screw is huge, and ugly! -

Just like any other caliper/lever combo. Just use a BH90 hose with straight at the lever and banjo at the caliper. Both systems are pressure ones so should in theory work. I just don't see the point, apart from maybe having it all spare parts to begin with.
Thanks for the answer. Agreed with overkill but aren't we persuing that all the time with new tech?
I kinda like the idea. 4 pots for my heavy ass all day.

My Hope 4pots are lovely

To a degree yes, but this is overkill in a "but whyyy" kinda way.
Doesn't matter how many pistons you have, you're limited by the tyre/rotor combo. You'll be locking up wheels before the caliper hits it's peak performance and the opposite goes for the rubber.
Saying that, I'd still build it for shits and giggles.

I use 2pot on 140mm at 100kg and find them more than good enough, 4pot would be unnecessary

Any idea why it would be so high up?
-
• #5895
No room lower down without fouling on bottle cage? Or more likely you want the stop where it comes out of the frame or close to. I used to have a pulley based one on a bottom-pull mech which was placed in a slightly awkward location from a crap gathering location.

Higher front mech allows for the massive chainring that's required on a gravel bike...

As @Chak said, can work but also can be overkill, considering that it would be better to simply stick to the original Shimano road calipers and fit a 160mm rotor, or even 180mm if you're really concern about stopping power.
Having said that, the feel of the 4 pots Hope RX4 was lovely and can see the appeal, especially how the Shimano flat-mount pads have less surface area on the pads, in theory, pads with a larger surface area should last longer than one with a smaller surface area.

I’ve got 160 and 140 on my gravel bike as From time to time I’m using it like a 90s MTB and kind of like to slow down in steep stuff. All things considered it’s a bit much most of the time.

Totally agree. SRAM uses 4 pots (much smaller pistons) very effectively, but Zee was designed for big ass rotors/tyres.
My point was the combination of parts, not the merit of each components. Those tyres will give out long before the braking system has reached it's proper potential.Same on motorcycles. My 2pots (290mm rotors) will lose effectiveness IF I abuse at them. My 4pots (320mm) don't give two shits.
2pots will be more than fine for normal use.
