  • Compass tyres?

  • yeah want to be able to go out with may mates here who are all roadies and at least stay fairly close, when I say xc I.mean very light xc nothing mental, forest roads bridal paths etc.

  • yeah that is high on the list.

  • Spesh sequoia.

Don't forget about em! 650b wheels and some big rubber (I've got the ubiquitous WTB horizons in 47mm) and you have speed, comfort and a floaty ride, even though the bike is a bit of a chubster on the scales.

  • thanks will have a check 👍

  • Cross type bikes I've had a go on and liked

    Pompetamine
    Pompino
    Caadx
    Planet X xla
    Giant tcx

The pomps will be no good (unless you're willing to single speed it.....)
The caadx was pretty handy on the road and "racing" cross.
I've not tried the xla out beyond winter road miles, a Tuesday night in Kent, and some woods with mates. I lost the group on a downhill on a Tuesday night in Kent, but I imagine that's because I'm weak and was on 1*10.....
    The giant was good too.

  • You could probably ask @amey what his Chinese carbon open up thing is.
    That'd tick the boxes.

  • had a look at some chinese carbon stuff but by the time i have a new group set, bars, wheels and breaks it all adds up also i dont have space or the tools to tinker like i did back in London but it was something i was thinking about.
hong fu and deng fu have quite a good rep and the factory is only just over the boarder.

im never going to be a fast on the racer rodie i just like to ride a bike quite far and see nice things.

ta for info caad x looks nice and if i forgo the rack mounts is something id like to try

  • Fairly happy with my Fuji Jari if you can get those. The full-builds are even reasonably priced.

  • ah hadn't thought of Fuji will have a look. ta.

  • @Howard I take it you have the alfine Arkose?

    How is the EBB mechanism?
    How is the Jtek shifter?
Will it take 650b 38mm tyres and guards?

  • Will it take 650b 38mm tyres and guards?

    With space spare

  • Seems fine so far. I really like it. Sorry Phil.

  • What tools do I need to look at/fiddle with/almost break my EBB in the SS Arkose?
I'm getting an awful creaking noise (which I thought was my saddle - but that's all tightened now) when I push the pedals and I'm sat down. Plus. My chain is well slack.

  • It can take 2.0 tyres and guard.

    2.2 slick without.
    M

  • Of course you do, it’s an Arkose and they’re awesome. It’s just a shame that’s all.

  • What tools do I need to look at/fiddle with/almost break my EBB in the SS Arkose?

Big allen key. Torque wrench (10nm IIRC).

To actually move the EBB you can insert a big allen key though the gap in the bit that rotates then turn the crank arm against it in the direction you want it move. Wrap the arm in a rag to prevent scratches.

Decide if you want a lower or higher BB before you do it :)

  • And how do you get them out?
    Undo shell bolts then?

Because, the state of mine suggests the whole of the shell needs a fucking clean?

    Should I just pay someone?

  • And how do you get them out?

@bigshape has had his out. Assume it's a case of taking the cranks out then pushing it out. It might be that the shell has a lip on it meaning it only comes out one way.

  • Undo bolt and push it out after removing chainset.

I’d take bottom brackets out first, just to be sure.

It’s that simple, light coat of anti sieze grease can be useful.

  • Cranks off, bolts undo, push.

I'll come back when I fuck it up.

  • any one god a clue on haibikes ?
was in the local biek shop and they and a nice looking model and could be what aim looking for with a few tweaks but i have never heard of haibikes and wondered about there reputation on bike build and stuff, my google fu just keeps throwing up ebikes which is what they mainly do now.
this was the model, high noon 8.30

  • mine's a charge plug so might be slightly different to the arkose?
    i followed this guide; http://simplyseanie.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/cannondale-trail-sl-29er-3-ss-eccentric.html

had to give the spindle a fairly hard whack with a hammer to release it from the BB shell.

  • haibikes
    I'd bang that.

  • y no ‘Hai Noon’ ?
