Very nice- thanks

It's definitely interesting

Definitely Amey's best bike

I like the fact the paintjob is so lairy, you don’t notice the lauf as quickly
-
• #29457
The specs would make you think it would look like an abomination but somehow I like the end result.

It was close.

That angle mercifully hides the handlebar too.

The man must be an artist if his work can disguise what an absolute dog's dinner of a bike that is.

I was thinking HLF for this, with a dropper instead of the current post:

Although I should probably paint the fork and stem as well, thinking about it.
-
• #29463
So this bike has a Lauf fork and a redshift stem? Ok.

There's https://frameworkbicycles.com/ in Canada who are in that early Sturdy stage. Clearly amazing engineering, design and manufacture but as of yet not got big enough to charge loads. Their Instagram feed is great, some seriously impressive stuff.
Am I dumb, or is there no pricing info on their site?
-
• #29465
You're not wrong. He did a couple of Instagram videos about pricing a few weeks back, from memory it was around 4000 Canadian dollars for the full custom frame, forks, seatpost and stem. Not cheap but also not mental especially if you're US / Canadian based.
One cool thing is there's no BB or headset, the machining is so precise that the bearings are directly in the frame. The Escape Collective visited the factory a while back so I'm assuming he'll get a big write up soon.

Speaking of frames what are some British-based manufacturers that make steel Gravel/Off-road bikes? I know there's Fairlight, Brother, Tempest and I guess Genesis, but I'm sure there are other great names I've missed or not heard of.

Quirk, stayer, mason

It was a comparison on how cycles and parts for them can cost a lot more than similar parts for a car or van

Double suspension joy

• #29470
That’s pretty cool in having no BB or headset shells and the bearings fit directly

Big fan of Stayer, obvs
Another couple are Grove and August

Cotic. Brought out what we now recognise as "flat bar gravel" back in 2006 with the Roadrat. Escapade followed in 2014ish?

• #29473
the bearings fit directly
Like BB30¿ Or most BMXs
-
• #29474
My immediate thought was also “so BB30 then, but cool this time”.
-

Tolerances were the problem with BB30, and heating stuff after machining, so if they're good it's fine, but nothing groundbreaking.
Don't exactly understand where cars come into it, but zhat's the builds I mean. When you could probably buy a working car for the equivalent of drivetrain consumables.
