  • I'd recommend Kalloy posts in .2mm increments from 25.0 up to 40.0. You never know

  • Or cut the seatpost, and stick an ISP topper on it!!

  • You're right, better add a series of shims to 40mm in .2mm increments with a hundred spare 40mm toppers. Just to be on the safe side.

  • Out if no spare seatpost

  • I will only have TWO seatposts and they will be the industry standard 27.2 and 30.9 AND these will be inline. Shims and layback seatposts are for communists

  • Dagnammit

    Thanks for looking

    Sorry for the spam.

Got a part sram rival 1 10spd group for sale minus the spyre brakes for sale.

    120 posted.

  • Going to fit Schwalbe studded tyres on and my gravel bike becomes a ‘snow bike’ yippeee, top times

  • A nice balance of compact geo with decent saddle-bar drop. Paint is probably marmite

  • 28c Gravel Kings work surprisingly well in the snow.

    Also @PhilDAS ’ing

  • saddle - bb -setback looks quite immense especially with smp

I'd guess they've just barely put the post in to avoid scratching the paint before shipping it to the final customer

  • The angle of the photo looks odd, but I think it looks like a pretty short wheel-base which might help explain the setback

  • For a QR wheelset for gravel use, would you pay ~40 GBP extra to have DT RWS thrubolt skewers over Novatec ones? I have already decided to go for 9x100 and 10x135 instead of 5 mm QR, just there is a question of whether it is worth it to pay even more for RWS.
Also, anybody has experience with RWS and carbon fork? Is it safe so carbon won't get damaged, how easy it is to tighten it properly (so that the wheel sits in stable but it's not overtightened)?

  • Here’s the clearance, with the tyres (measures nearly 30mm, not pictured), it’s a tight squeeze to fit mudguard on, you can see how the fork remain the same width the further you go down.

Have to says it’s a cracking bike, but more of a road endurance geometry than a gravel geometry.

  • Yea I had a look today. Reckon you could squeeze a 32 on a 700 rim in there.

No point canibalising the Arkose market I guess by making it 650 friendly.

  • Arkose with 38mm 650b gravel king felt light and nimble, great on snow being able to grip the snow on the tyres, long wheelbase is obvious.

  • Is that yours? Do you get a nice discount on it?

  • Cheapest one I can get that come with Tiagra hydraulic which felt almost identical to the RS505 version.

Fitted 11-34, make it more off road friendly with the 48/32 chainset.

  • So, ultimately, without reading through 111 pages, is there anything out there better than an arkose 3 for £1250?

  • I'm biased but think the Pickenflick is better...

  • Cheapest option is nearly 500 quid more. Ti is a bit cracky for a commuter/winter bike

  • Arkose 2, 10 speed cheaper to maintain,go up to 11-34t, and near-identical brake/shifting.

    Disclaimer; very biased.

  • Pure vanity, prefer the colour of the arkose 3. Struggling to find a better alternative.

  • Apex 1 is currently 1200 GBP, so cheaper than Arkose 3. I just bought it for 1000, it's just a matter of patience until PX does another sale.
Also titanium might crack, but it is not less resistant to hits as far as I know. Not rusting like steel an not oxidating like alluminium is another plus for winter bike.
