R8000 short cage is claimed 30t so could easily go to 32t with some B screw magic

• #1403
Cassette is 34t

As has been said, XTR (or XT) rear mech won't play with a road front, my setup is simply plug and play.
I've got a long cage Ultegra rear mech on the Time Machine with 53/39 to 11-32, but I don't think it's actually needed as The Mrs is happily running a short cage on the same block with a 34t inner with zero issues.
That doesn't answer your question I'm afraid - I've not played with the new stuff, although my new bike is tempting me to throw the newer levers on as the reach on the R785's is on the epic side.

Very excellent.

All this di2 stuff seems a faff ...
-
• #1407
The Di2 stuff on mine has been simplicity itself - literally the easiest part of the bike by a (very) long way.
Getting the tyres to setup correctly, on the other hand...

The faff is Shimano/Madison being useless cunts and not having the new rear mech for sale.

I dunno, bikes are great because they're so simple. With a mechanical group I can switch cables meself etc and make it work again. Junction boxes, firmware, electrical stuff ... All seems to complicate matters somewhat ... Just needs an update progress bar stuck at 98%, and you are right where everything else in life is heading, which is the internet of shit. And I say this as a software developer.

Nah it's all plug and play man. Ridiculously easy.
The only reason people are faffing about in this thread is because they want to build bikes that fall between the normal road / mtb groupsets

• #1411
Just use 11-28 and a bit of HTFU
-
• #1412
I know it's nds fail, but anyway nice bike

until something goes wrong

I mean yeah, but that’s the same with anything.
-
• #1415
Is it? Looks like a boring bike with trendy tyres to me

• #1416
Check out the Paragon Machine Works Polydrops though. Nice.

i think the point was you don't need to plug your bike into a computer to know you just need a new mechanical cable.
Dunno though.
-
• #1418
Or run out of battery, because you're too scatterbrain to charge things regularly ...
-
• #1419
Beg to differ. Cue daily snapped cable repair with a confused face behind it followed by long ass shifter disassembly.
-
• #1420
That isn't the problem
The issue for me is that the correct rear mech was meant to be available four weeks ago, was then delayed to this week and now might arrive just before xmas. So I expect to have my winter bike completed by spring time at this rate.

Think how delighted you'll be when we have the wettest spring ever in 2018 though.

di2 is ridiculously simple. Take it out of the box, push buttons and ride away.
I adjusted the shifting only once in 3 years. And you can do that on the fly, like a mechanical groupset.
No need to replace inner or outer cables and if you find out half way you forgot to charge it you can always just push your derailleur into a gear and ride home. It's a lot harder when you snap a (mechanical) cable.

I want to hate it, but I really can't.

Saddle height appears to be determined by where the Thomson post kinks.
@chak
Medium cage 8070 is vapourware release date keeps being pushed back.
6870 can't take 34t sprocket and I'd like a direct mount rear mech.
