Thinking about chucking some flared gravel type drops on my ssmtb, I'm torn between Cowchippers and On One Midge.
Would also listen to other suggestions around that £25-45 type budget.
Want them pretty wide I think to suite the mtb vibe.

I’m pretty sure I have some 31.8 WTB Dirt Drops that aren’t being used - any interest?

I haven’t really thought it through but as they’ve been mounted to a stem but never used how about £30 posted? Think I have an upright short stem as well if you want

Getting there! Other than cross-threading a disk caliper's bleed port it's come together nicely. Need a 0º stem to have it match my other bikes' setup and as ever, needing to find restraint in not just splashing the cash on new rather than use what I already have or find used which was my self-imposed n+1 rule this time round.

The Midge I've fitted to this latest build were last used on a cross-check built up as a on and off road commuter. I love 'em for offering a range of positions but I don't think I use them as they're intended, having them low-ish and riding on the hoods in a bullhorn fashion the majority of the time and really only using the drop sections when it gets gnarly† when the wide stance is perfect.
† Gnarly for a middle-aged bloke with no bottle.

Yeah I’d be happy with that.
Pm me your PayPal?
I’ll just take the bars as I’ll make myself a stem to use em with.
Cheers. -

Yeah that is!

Perfect.

I kinda imagine I'll be riding on the hoods a lot. I don't find it very easy getting my hands to the lever in the drops at the best of times, don't think I'd be wanting risk it off road.

Because of their shape, the levers can actually be positioned so you end with a kinda MTB-like setup when you're in the drops—easy to ride with a finger or two covering them—so it's worth experimenting.

Cowchipper is super nice, take the best part of a road bar but more flare.
May need to go wider than you think, if you like 42cm then you need 46cm to feel similar on the good.

I've got a set of the flared bars off Spesh Sequoia here. Mentioned them to someone looking for wider bars in another thread.

Always be sure to have enough travel for your gravé bike

OCD trigger on those tyre/rim logo non-alignments.
-
• #12145
To be fair it looks like the full tyre logo is centred over the rim decals. There are a load of red graphics after the main white one on the tyre. I think it would look messy whichever way they lined it up.
-
• #12146
The only answer is to remove the rim stickers.

• #12147
That's almost always the answer

Ah - didn't clock that. What Hippy said in that case.

Question for those are using wider drop bars (like 48cm+) any recommendations for really long bar tape? I'm considering a pair of the 52cm cowchippers for my Spesh AWOL. Also will likely be selling a pair of 42cm cowchippers and 44cm cowbell bars in the coming weeks so PM me if you're interested!

Bar tape should be long enough normally, you just need to be a little more careful in the spacing and use the little section of bar tape on the hood.
Good to see it built up! How'd you get on?
