  • #nogravel in west yorkshire

    From https://ridewithgps.com/routes/33675033
though my actual ride had a fair few divergences from that route

  • Please can we start sharing route files with these pics. It’s not on.

  • If anyone is in Wales/planning to ride there any time soon. Some routes:

    Gravel.wales

    Planning to add more soon.

  • So is there or is there not any gravel in wales?

  • Has it not now been proven there is no gravel in the UK.

  • This is great - moving back west so will be hitting a few of these. Thanks for sharing.

  • no gravel on the outskirts of glasgow tonight either, raging

  • #nogravel right on my doorstep.

  • I am planning on picking up a second set of tyres so I can go and see if the Midlands has any gravel. Currently I have got Schwalbe S-one 30 set up tubeless on stans grail rims and absolutely love them.

Been exclusively riding Schwalbe tyres for years and now looking for a knobbly 40c tyre the logical choice was G-one ultrabite, however I do feel like I have to scratch that tan wall instagram itch and they only do them in the performance range and not the evolution.

So few questions for you guys,

Is Schwalbe evolution loads better than performance?

Would something like a WTB Raddler be a better option as my first non-schwalbe tyre?

Is there a forum favourite 40c tubeless knobbly?

Will report back with updates on my local gravel situation.

  • Literally right on your doorstep? If so, nice pad.

  • I've used a Nano on the front and a Riddler on the back in the past. Both available in brownwall. Seemed to work well enough.

  • wtb nano ? or resolute seems to be popular.

  • The ultrabite 700c comes in 40-622 but that gives a 38mm fitted width, they came up fairly narrow on my wheels

  • The nano looks a little fast looking tread wise for what I am after. Seen as I already have a nearly slick I was hoping to go to the other extreme and have a mini MTB tyre to give me maximum coverage in terms of terrain.

I do like the look of the resolute and is very much what I have in my head. Just worried that being a 42c how tight I might start getting in the frame and clearance for mud.

Do these WTBs stand up well to Schwalbe?

@jackbepablo How do you rate the ultrabites other than narrow? and were they performance or evo models?

  • They’re good, and actually roll faster on asphalt than you would expect. I had the Evo ones I think, but they were blagged pre-prod ones labelled as Terrabites [working title I guess] so can’t be sure that they definitely were.

WTB nanos are definitely a really great option for nearly-mtb-tread on 700s, haven’t run them for a while but they’re always in the running.

  • Surly Knards are also in there.
What about Gravelking EXT+ in 38mm?

Also, where do you need to ride with these?

  • was looking for views/reviews on some tyres I'm sizing up, and look who pops up...
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2JFVsy-Xh0

  • I used my usual methond and trawled the net for some consensus and reviews and threw the tops at LFGSS, Those other tyres didn't really come up in the top lists but saw Panaracers get a few less than favourable words said.

Ha well im not sure I do need them lol. I use my S-ones mostly in the city but in that there is also a lot of canals and light gravel paths. Now I live slightly further out there is the option of a river instead of canal which is grass, trodden soil/mud path and gravel/fire roads. I used to have 35mm Sammy slicks and do like the comfort on the rougher stuff. So I thought 40mm knobbles for exploring and 30mm slicks for fun.

  • Coincidentally they are the tyres I currently have on. S-one became G-one speed. I back up everything he says.

  • Is there a forum favourite 40c tubeless knobbly?

Teravail Rutland? Come in 38 or 42c and tan wall, nice but a bit pricey.
