I think I'd rather have narrow tyres ( within reason ) and a riser bar, than fat tyres with drops off road
I kinda assumed the drop bars with 2.2" + rubber was just for posing - nobody would actually ride that set-up in anger. Right?

Like this bunch of posers?

Do we have to?

Long distance posing.

Funny you say that...
Maybe I'm being silly over 3mm of tyre width. At large sizes, small amounts make big differences in volume.

Put it this way, can you tell the difference between a 2.25" and a 2.6" on your MTB? Because I reckon in terms of pressure, traction, etc. that's a smaller change than going from 47mm (= 1.85") to a 2.2" on a gravel bike

Absolutely. 2.25 is an XC race tyre. Anything bigger and you are in to huck-to-flat territory.

Koga Beachracer takes a 29 x 2.4 or so.
Very high bb though.

Yeah, that's skinny XC shit Vs normal decent sized tyres.

It needs the @Rod_Munch treatment in the fishy looking bikes thread.

THESE ARE NOT SOURDOUGHS

It’s like asking people if they can feel the difference between 23mm and 25mm tyres, a tyres that’s a mere 2mm bigger.

It’s like asking people if they can taste the difference between sourdough and rye sourdough, a bread that’s a mere 3 letters different.

My friend has 650B 2.2" tyres on his Ribble CGR with a bit of room left to play with.

Where is your friend planning on riding this bike?
He lives in Perthshire in Scotland, so mostly around there and then trips a bit further around Scotland.
Thanks for all the suggestions folks, loads for us to dig through. Those bikepacking.com links are great.

@BareNecessities round of applause for the new thread title.
Everything else going on in this thread though...jesus wept

How would you say the resolutes are different?
I haven't ridden either tyre, but visually they are quite similar. -

I don't know to be honest. Being a bit smaller, I figured there would be a little less sensitivity to pressure but that might be bollocks. Also a bit less lethargic to accelerate. I thought they were less aggressive to be honest but having had a look you're bang on about how similar they look.
Would like to try them anyway!
How about Continental Race Kings?
They come in 27.5x2.0, which is pretty close.
