  • The Future Shock is only helping isolate the vibration to the hands, rather than improving the handing of the bike on rough surfaces, seems a bit gimmicky.

  • Not a fan of the future shock meself, had a go on a roubaix soon as it was released. Surely damping vibration to the hands will improve handling over rough ground while also reducing fatigue. Personally I just bend my arms and loosen my grip slightly.

  • Me too! I learnt that shortly after learning to ride a bike.

  • Don't know why Spesh have added it to the new Diverge, current models don't have it, if anything I would have made a bit more clearance for bigger tyres, especially at the rear. As an otp bike I quite like em. But as you said, bit gimmicky.

  • Roubaix a race bike, Diverge a gravel bike that accept bigger tyres, sequoia an all round light touring bike and AWOL a full on tourer.

    Simple.

  • This. Don't know how @amey bunched all of them together, but then he has got more pressing matters on his mind, like, can his cp thread reach 100pages without a completed bike. It's a tough ask, but if he really knuckles down I'm sure he'll manage it.

  • You're on holiday, get off the forum

  • Really digging this paintjob

  • tire clearance will go to shit in any mud, plus that box thingy is tiny and bloody ugly at the same time

  • Gravel bike dropper post ffs

  • Actually it make more sense to have it on the Diverge which see more rough road than the Roubaix.

I can imaging how much easier it is to relax your grip on rough gravel road.

Admittedly it's moot when they went for 650b with clearance for 47mm tyres.

  • tire clearance will go to shit in any mud

it's a gravel bike, not a CX bike. Makes sense to me

  • Hadn't seen 2018 model before tyre size comment. Still not convinced by the bouncy front end though. We've all got by for years without, seems like innovation for the sake of it, yes it probably works, but do we need it? I for one will be more than happy with my 3mm bartape, loosened grip and plush 40mm tyres.

  • but it rains on roads, no, and if they're gravel or dirt it will get muddy, no?!

  • Gravel doesn't turn to mud in the rain, and certainly not mud that will clog your tires!

  • it turns into clay, which will stop your wheels turning

  • I'm running 130bcd raceface 1x10 on DA7800 cranks - don't understand why you would need offset chainline is great.

  • ...and that's when you get the Crux out obviously.

  • I have never ever seen a single photo of a gravel bike on a gravel road in rain...

  • so what do they do when it rains? stay inside? buy a new $4000 bike?

  • Stay on paved roads.

However, I've done enough gravel riding in the rain on a road bike with 30mm tires (no clearance). And gravel kinda stays gravel.. Sure it gets a bit mushy, but not really mud or clay. It could be down to the type of gravel here though.

  • Yup, UK 'gravel' =/= what most Euro or US would consider gravel.

  • You haven't ridden much if you think this is true.

  • Well no, my experience is fairly limited, but what I would consider 'typical' gravel roads aren't clay based. Obviously gravel as a genre incorporates anything that isn't paved, so can be pretty much any kind of earth possible. I'm just saying Strade Bianche style classic gravel isn't going to clog your tires if it rains.
