I believed it was water resistant as they sell it as. It's not. So yes, it broke from water damage.

Was that the Moto? Tried a Sony yet?
-
• #729
I like the SanDisk, it just works. Even if you wreck it with rain it's cheap to replace and just slot your existing SD card in.
-
• #730
Yeah the moto x force.
Not tried a sony, they looked good but ££. So went with another moto but the style one. -

Broken as the battery wont hold charge, it was shit anyway, didn't seem to have a lock to prevent accidental button press. Radio had crap reception too, resorted to listen to static at one point- apologies Q not directed at me.

Me too, which is why I bought a second one.
Unfortunately, I killed it by sweating on it.
Luckily, the internal storage still works so it's now in the car as my car's mp3 storage.

I have a Sony Xperia z3 compact, and have tested it's waterproofness with several pint glass dunkings... Still works fine about 12-18months on and I'm not particularly carful with it.
It's not a brand new model, and when I bought it someone on here posted up a link to buy it for c.£300. I know it's not super cheap, but it seems like there are (were) good deals around, and the waterproofness is a bonus. Also has a micro SD slot to expand the memory if needed for map/music storage.

Yeah, it was the Z3 or Z5 I was looking at. I can't recall. There might even be variations amongst them that are/aren't hardened. Just not quite got around to spending another chunk of cash on yet another GPS device :)
In other news Garmin 1000 has surpassed any of their previous models for stability. Well done Garmin, apart from the battery life, you've actually managed to make something work, oh wait, I did have to reboot it once but it picked up immediately and it may have recovered anyway if I was more patient.

Has anyone ever tried the cheap Chinese phones that are on eBay? Like:
Bluboo
HomTom
LandvoThe names are a bit naff but I googled a few reviews and they seem like they might be ok, a mid-range 4G phone for £50-70.
I need to get a different phone for TCR as my work Blackberry won't be as much use as an Android, and the battery lasts five minutes. I'd rather not spend £x00 on one that I wouldn't be looking after.

• #736
Yeah but when/if it fails it will cost you more IMO.

Just had to fork out 60 quid on N. American maps for my Garmin. No end to the spend :(
-
• #738
Why don't you get the local yoofs to download them for you?
Actually, I should stop paying for their stupid maps in protest at the money I've lost on their faulty equipment.
-
• #739
Why not use the free OSM ones (as described on DC Rainmaker)?
-
• #740
Or VeloMaps. They use the OSM data but render it in a number of more GPS-friendly ways.
-
• #741
Er because I want the US National Grid rather than OS

obtuse
Is that wise? I hear there's an obtusity crisis threatening the country.

I resemble that remark ;)

Tubeless tyres are brilliant. Schawlbe S Ones are rocking horse shit atm though.

Question for Di2 gurus, should I carry a spare long lead with connectors preinstalled "Just in case"?
-
• #747
It's not heavy and Di2 spares aren't going to be plentiful in Ma & Pa shops along the route. Didn't Mike or Jesse carry Di2 spares?
-
• #748
That's my thinking but apart for leads, what other spares? Whatchathink?
-
• #749
I think Mike had a second battery didn't he?
-
• #750
Personal choice, I wouldn't.
In maybe 25,000 miles, I've never had a single issue with di2. Except when I forget to charge it!
Broken? Broken as in you tested how waterproof it is?
