Thanks. Will let you know if I have any questions. You'd need big balls to be stoker on a MTB tandem I reckon.

Do want.

lovin the tripple clamps

The only thing that came to me since was checking that its not a pain or more expensive to get the drive belt in longer length...

Just need to convince bothwell that it's a good idea now....

Thinking of front hub choices. Ideally want something that's dynamo, disc brake equipped and tandem specific. Google isn't helping much. Can find tandem specific dynamo hubs but nothing suitable for discs. Anyone seen anything or got any suggestions?

Almost certain the 29er tandem I posted is using this http://www.sp-dynamo.com/8Xseriesdynamo%20hub.html
They're also using BB7 rather than hydro brakes :)

BB7's are the devils work (road version, MTB version is fine).
Some info:
Shimano
http://si.shimano.com/php/download.p...008-00-ENG.pdf
Shimano disc brake systems are not compatible with tandem bicycles.
Because tandem bicycles have a high overall weight, the load on the brake system increases during brake operation. If hydraulic disc brakes are used with tandem bicycles, the oil temperature will become too high and vapor locks or ruptures in the brake hoses may occur, and this will cause the brakes to fail.TRP
HYRD

The HYRD brake system is an open hydraulic brake designed for
use on single rider bicycles.Helix

WARNING - This braking system was designed for use on a single rider bicycle. Use of this system on any other vehicle or apparatus will void the warranty and possibly causing you great personal harm and injury.
SRAM
I couldn't find anything on SRAM's site on weight limits or exclusions for tandems on the SRAM website.
Hope Tech
I couldn't find exclusions for tandem's on Hope Tech's website.

I descended the col d'Gog Magog yesterday on my tandem which has chromed steel wheels and mafac cantis. All was fine. You're over thinking it.
-
• #163
I don't think he is.
-
• #164
Do u even Gog magogs? Highest hills in Cambridge. Over 74m. I doubt the Alps go much higher than that.
-
• #165
Shit I had no idea. Balls of steel going down that without at least a drum.
-
• #166
Oh it has a drum, I'm not fucking mental.

Had a call from Matt this morning. Looks like we'll be going the way of cable discs on this. The frame will be receiving braze ons for a under bb mounted third brake but Tom's also brought the idea of an Eddy brake to the table. Yes, that's right, magnets for stopping!
-
• #168
What variety of cable disc you going for?

I think some testing is in order, I like the lack of meltable parts in the Paul Components calipers, however it's only a single piston design. That said, they are designed to be able to be adjusted using zero tools other than fingers, which when touring is a big plus. Although you might want to use an oven glove, depending on the terrain you have just negotiated.

Hope will laugh at you, possibly in a northern accent, if you tell them you are going to use their shiz on a tandem

Whose laughing now

Dunno, call Hope, see if they know anything about that product - it looks like the standard Tech 3 V4 DH / AM caliper
Nice one, cheers!
