A mate has - works fine.
Why not just buy some Shimano wheels?
If I were you I'd not want to be setting up to rely on obscure cassettes. Regular campag are bad enough.

I bought some Campag splined v2 Kinesis cx disc wheels cheap. Thought i'd be able to change the spline as per the V1 wheels- turns out I can't. I'm a little loathe to change the wheels, as what i'd replace them with wouldn't be as nice for the money....
Buying Shimano wheels would be the sensible thing to do though

And makes further changes/improvements easier and financially lighter on the pocket. Campy is beautiful stuff, sram/shimano for adaptability and function.

yep- Campag parts do seem a bit of a money pit. It'd be a bit cheaper initially, but not right in the long run. Maybe i'll use the shiftmate as a stopgap while waiting for some nice shimano wheels

Has anyone tried one?
I have one. It works great. But they've gone bust I think, sjs still had some stock last I checked but pretty expensive.
-
• #57
Just looked- yes,£30 is steep for such a simple bit of kit. still tempted by it though
-
• #58
what set up do you use btw?
-
• #59
It's the classic shimergo, 10 speed campagnolo shifters and 9 speed shimano mech+cassette. So not what you're trying for here but the shiftmate stuff works and is quality.

My setup would be campag cassette, shinano/ SRAM everything else. Jtek suggest the model 1 will suit this, but I'd like some field reports before buying

Wheels have arrived, they're very nice...
-
• #62
... as they are so nice I'm going to stick with an all campag drive train. Was also talked out of the Shiftmate solution by my LBS- Keep pedalling in Manchester.
Drivetrain will be a veloce/ centaur mix. BBG bashguard and dog fang to keep the chain on. Dia Compe bar end friction shifter for gears .
Just have to decide between BB7 and Spyres for brakes. The decision will probably come down to price- where can I get Spyres cheap(ish)?
-
• #64
Cheers - Only £7 than BB7 callipers. I wonder what customs duty will add to that?
-
• #65
so should be a bit over £120 once VAT is added on
-
• #67
VAT
I don't know how zealous UK customs are but it's a small package and might well slip through? Only thing I've had to pay customs and VAT on are wheels (but I'm in Sweden). I got my spyres from Taiwan.

Sub'd- just picked up one in xl. Be interested to see how your turns out!

Question. I have a 42t ring upfront and a maximum sprocket size of 29t at the back. I assume I need a medium cage derailleur as per Campag specs, but would only have a 42t ring change this?
-
• #70
I run a 42t and 12-29 with a medium veloce mech. Works fine and is a really good range for... everything really. Maybe apart from racing.
-
• #71
That'll be fine as long you're not going anywhere near mountain.
-
• #73
Just go for the lowest/largest range you can. The spacing of gears matters on the road but for cx or trails not so much.
-
• #74
What if you're going near but not up it? Also "do you even Cornwall m8?".
:-P
(I run 42 x 12-30 BTW and it's good).
-

Yeah, that was my initial thought. Largest range for a campag cassette seems to be 12-29. Bit of limitation of using Campag
Hmmmm. Campag cassette with a jtek shiftmate might work... Has anyone tried one?
