CS11 Plans - Regents Park

  • Not dissimilar to the cobbled hump at the SE gate.

This does actually do the job of slowing cars down.

Usually, however, they are alongside me when they hit it, in some bone-headed must-get-in-front overtake before the junction. They then end up stuck alongside me as they reach the mouth of the junction, and some of the drivers are then thick/entitled enough to then left hook me. Stoooopid.

Not sure what difference having more / less light would make - it's not as if you can't hit the tables at 30mph in all conditions and need to worry about coming off - unless you grab the brake or something. But that assumes riders have some skills, and many of those I've witnessed in RP are very much in a deficit, so I kinda see where you are coming from.

  • I was thinking due to the park being dimly lit with those old lamps, you might not be able to see the deflections in the road (especially commuting in winter). Would also be a nightmare if you had another 14 places where the cars 'must-get-in-front'.

I agree, on other roads you can hit them at 30mph and not even think about it (nearby on Avenue Rd for example).

  • The Royal Parks tweeted this last night:-

I know it might not mean much in the grander scheme but I'd encourage those on twitter to let them know what you think.

  • Zoodax on the 3rd October...

On the 3rd October, Justin McKie, chair of the Regent’s Park Cyclists
group, will be cycling around the Outer Circle of Regent’s Park 113
times to complete 500km. He will be raising money for The Regent's
    Park Cherry Tree Fund.

    Why?

Cyclists numbers have grown in London and in Regent's Park
particularly and we want to say thanks.

With pollution levels killing thousands each year we need more trees
(and less cars). With cyclists getting killed in London, Regent's Park
is our safe haven to exercise in London. There are no others.

  • I've attached a report from the 5th and final CS11 pre-consultation meeting that took place on Tuesday 20th. Please feel free to forward to anyone this will be of interest to.

    Very well observed this!

Maybe throw some road width restrictions in to make the left turn hook easier?

  • Was just down there, police were pulling riders for speeding and trailing riders round checking speeds.

  • police were pulling riders for speeding

    Whu?

  • 'Your speeding's really sexy, fancy a quicky in the wagon?'

  • Yep I was there last night and there were police talking to cyclists.....didn't see them stopping them for speeding though.....and they didn't try to stop me (and I was doing fairly quick but definitely not 30mph+ laps!) so not sure on what the conversation was

  • Consultation is up and closes 20 March.

I don't know the park well but some things spring to mind that may require lots if people feeding back on like the raised junctions on the outer circle.

  • After riding in the park this morning I just consulted.

  • Final week to have your say in the consultation.

An update from Regent's Park Cyclists...

    Hi all,

As many of you already know, the consultation is scheduled to finish
    this week.

We are at a critical stage of the whole CS11 / No speed hump campaign.
    WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW!
    Background
As you will know RPC managed to reduce the original plan to put 14 speed humps down to 4, which along with gate closures
North and South (open only from 11-3) puts recreational / sports /
disabled cyclists in a better position than when we started. But that
    position is not secure yet.
    Platform designs
More recently, holding back our Pro CS11 votes pushed Andrew Gilligan / TFL to force TRP to provide more clarity on
the “heritage friendly” materials they are able to use for these
platforms. They agreed no cobbles or rough surfaces! It has been a
    massive battle.
We now need to win CS11
There was an un-veiled threat that without CS11, TRP may very well revert back to other designs, which
will most likely be against our longer-term interest.
    What we need from you
In simple terms, we need the CS11 Consultation to succeed and go ahead, but we are up against it –
because a STOP CS11 group have been working hard to gain votes against
    the plans.
    How can you help?
Each of us needs to complete the consultation and gather as many additional responses as we can.

  • Comments on this are... amazing

  • Never read the comments on the ES!

  • My favourite comment was probably

would be surprised at how many car mirrors are smashed by cyclists even on the pavement.

  • y u turn this in 2 statistics competition. Yyyyyyyy?!

  • I've only ever had a bus smash my wing mirrors (no euph). Can we get them wearing hi-vis?

  • big piece in the Camden New Journal,

    http://www.camdennewjournal.com/cs11-two-sides

has certainly got people talking, but some folk near to me in Camden who naturally don't fall into either camp seem to get excited when nearly hit by cyclists on the pavement so some are not helping the cause, just saying not judging in this instance, I know there's a thread for that sort of thing somewhere.

  • Some choice quotes from both 'sides' there. Guess it makes a good story.

  • what no one seems to be mentioning officially either is that when HS2 construction works start the Zoo car park is going to be an HGV compound with numerous roads having utility works, bridges removed (Mornington Street Bridge), roads closed (Park Village East), and numerous construction routes with HGVs carrying spoil out of London, even if they do manage to take some out by rail

  • Looks like laps will be less fun in the future... (unless you like lots of bumps)

  • But the commute will be better, so swings and roundabouts.
