  • Saw this on foreverpedalling or mat@fcp's instagram. Can't remember which.

  • this is why I ended up going with a 46cm instead of a 50. Figured longer stem would make up for it. But also the TT's are exactly the same between the 46 and 50.

Everything is in the shed waiting to be put together...

  • did i see this on the seabass insta? suweeeeet build!

  • Why do they do that? Do people in 'merica have longer arms or something?

Big spacer stack decrease reach I suppose.

  • Naive question(s) here. The rear dropout screws for the straggler -- read that some people don't use them? This true?

Second question, I seem to have lost 1 of the springs, know where I can find a replacement?

  • Biro?

I use them to effectively block off the horizontal section of the dropout, so the axle just slots in vertically. I may well be doing it wrong though!

  • I don't use them but with 29x2.0" tyres, I need all the space I can get.

  • Yeah I have 650b x 42 tyres, there is lots of space in the horizontal part of the dropout, which suggests I do need it. Which also probably means I should look harder on the shed floor for that spring or try to find a new one. Blergh.

  • I'll take a look in my 'random washers and stuff' jar. I vaguely recall seeing a couple of springs. If I find one that's the right size I can chuck it in the post.

  • How are you getting on with 2.0s?

I loved them until my wheel came a few mm out of true then they started rubbing.

  • aw cheers that would be rad!

  • Wheels are still true. Where I put Halfords Metal Repair Tape on the chainstays, I've seen no rub marks. Not been through proper sticky Nutella mud yet though.

  • just need some tubeless wheels now

  • Soz - they were tiny ones that don't fit over the surly screws :-<

  • No worries, the experience has inspired me to clear out my shed (and hopefully find it lurking somewhere). Thanks for checking!

Do you think the spring is actually necessary?

  • Nice! You're never going to lose your train ticket this way :)

  • From the Surly Bicycles fb page

  • it's a bike space reservation ticket

  • Ma beast ! Currently gathering cobwebs as knocked off last week. I am or was loving it !

  • Keep an eye on those rack bolts. Seems like I'm not the only one who's had it come loose and pivot into the front wheel :(

  • tasteful ass fade, looks like old school road bike with paint over chromed tubes.

  • is that the pelago front rack? what bags work best on those?
