What is wrong with some people

glad/afraid so, tom.
obviously a mixed bag, but happy to give a forum roberts a good home.

You're a good egg, and the frame has gone to a good home... just sad to split the twins... youdidn't fancy picking up the matching road?

It was a lot of bike for the money, so can't say i didn't think about it, but nah, I couldn't afford/justify it. I don't think I'd give up the Indy Fab for it, plus they are a little smaller than ideal. Beggars can't be choosers, but i have better fitting steel road frames, but not a winter fixed steed runabout.
I wasn't really in the market and surprised to see it up tbh. One of those ones you see that forces a move.

Needs matchy matchy Ti CK headset

As nice as that'd be, they rarely turn up secondhand and price new is tough to justify... more than a used pair of wound ups!
Got the Nitto m106's and Dura Ace Levers hooked up and ready
DA Chainset whipped off the white Roberts, will likely put the DA ring back on there.
The Moots stem isn't sitting right, was wishful thinking, so might be time to give it up, or buy a moots frame!Only other silver stem in the place put on for a quick spin, as i couldn't wait. The stem is too short, but other than that the frame feels bloody tight, stiff, responsive and already pretty comfortable. Reckon it's gonna work out lovely.
So, just need to solve the stem conundrum. A nice 120mm, 31.6, a-head that'll suit. Anything will practically do, but be nice to get it looking right.

That's bloody mad. I love the way it looks like, so huge and yet so pleasant to the eye. You're one tall gent haha.

Never owned a Roberts but like you say there's just something about them, my Mercian Vigorelli came close but always lusted after the latter. Well done on picking 2 that are absolute peaches and 1 1/8 steerer.

Cheers, Mike. I'm not sure what "it" is though, could be a bit of placebo in reality. I just know that I dearly missed not owning one in the gap between my road EL and the Max/853 here... All rectified now...gone the opposite way by one (or two now) but like you say, nice to have and the larger steerer makes a massive difference, especially in the bigger frames.
progress-wise, I'm still trying to find an answer to the first world (stem) problem
120mm Ti stem turned up, and has a nice profile
but it just doesn't sit right, and if I'm going to have a Ti stem that doesn't look right, it'll be a stupid Moots one. so, next...
also, had a little borrow of the Max handlebars set-up to see if black tape is the way, but think a bit of colour would be good.

This is absolutely tremendous. Can't think of a better road-fixed build.

I think the issue with the stems is that proportional to the frame tubes they're too large a diameter- the main body of the stem that is.

• #64
Great setup ... silver stem looks better than the Ti

dibs that 120mm ti stem!

I totally agree, though it seems to work on the other Roberts here (perhaps larger frame/max tubing helps) Thinking about it, my IF is exactly the same main triangle as this and a 3t'T works well. I have a silver Thomson X2 left to try, then I'm ripping the Nitto stem off another bike as I'm sure thats the one.
^^^
Cheers fella! I've not had as much time as i'd like on it, but i believe/hope you might be right.^^
I am pleasantly surprised how well the silver (cheapo Planet X cnc) stem sits on this frame, it was the same on the nagasawa, shouldn't, but does. Worse case, i'll just stick with a 120mm version.^
noted, yours if you want it, Matt -

@b'jammin I'm sorry that ti stem didn't work out!
The profile from the top looks spot on -
• #68
No worries Robin, It was worth a go. It does look bang on from the top, just not quite right on the side profile. One of the nicer Ti stems and fingers-crossed it has been put to good use.
Think I nailed it for now, by liberating the Nitto stem off the Roberts Max.
I wish these were easier to get hold of over here. Seems to answer my want of Nitto finishing kit on classic steel frames. The rise puts the bars exactly where I need them as well
Feels good, so will leave as is a get some miles in before anything else. Happy days!

Hold on, @Eamesy 's? sold his matchy bike?!
