  • Mine hasn't arrived. :(

The post up here, or maybe just mine, seem jinxed though. Waiting on a few parcels to be honest.

  • I think my pack is broken because I've played it a lot and I haven't won yet. Even a child who can't ride a bike beat me. Or maybe it's cursed. I dunno.

    (It's awesome, btw)

LOL. Buy a new bike and you'll be able to go first, or stick Ringo and Alan in your sleeve ;-)

  • Rubbish. Looks like a few didn't make it. If you still haven't got anything (Christmas has held everything up) soon, drop us an email to hello@attackthepack.com and I'll send you another.

  • Well done the Bens on getting this made and getting it out there. Cool.

  • Yes, we went with tapped due to it being a standard gaming term, but in effect it does mean tired, as a tapped/tired rider can't animate the race until they are 'refreshed'.

  • Have a few bits delayed. So won't panic just yet.

    But cheers.

  • Great thanks - makes it easier to explain to my non card game playing mates :)

  • Im thick I know that much, I can play 'snap' and thats about it,,,,, are there evening classes being organised to teach people how to play this game , i bought two packs at the launch tried it once and just didnt get it at all

  • There will be a "How To Play" video coming soon, any questions just ask me and I'm happy to explain.

  • Still no goodies. Can you check my address? I'll PM it to you Ben.

  • Hey, we've now got an instagram account to match our twitter both @atpcardgame

We're after any photos you might have taken whilst playing or of the game? Be great if you could tag us or #atttackthepack

And forumengers, any feedback? Bits you'd like, bit's you think we can improve and bits we could potentially add?

Any suggestions are welcome, cheers everyone.

  • Hey peeps, mail has just gone out. We're running a discount for Valentine's day. 20% off all decks with the code '4LOVE' at the checkout.

  • I sat down to play it with workmates today, having read the instructions yesterday. It was tough. I suspect the underlying game is brilliant, but the instructions left us all feeling lost. Example: attacking and defending. Can multiple players attack at the same time? Or is the first player to attack the attacker and the rest can only defend? It looks like all defending players have to be tapped individually - does each tap constitute an order or is the defence the whole order? So many questions. We're going to persevere and watch the video but the instruction leaflet should probably be re-written at some point, for idiots like me.

  • Fair. We've been meaning to do a instructional video since we launched, but our day jobs have got in the way. I'm going to start making it on monday, so expect it soon.

Can multiple players attack at the same time? Or is the first player to attack the attacker and the rest can only defend?

A player can only initiate an attack on their turn as one of their three orders. Once that player has launched an attack, then the following players then decide wheter they want any or all of their riders to join the attack (to add to the gap total), or defend (and decrease from the gap total). When it's been calucated, that's then end of that one order. If the player has any orders left, then can play them still, as each player has up to three orders per turn.

So basically the attack/creating or joining the break mechanism, although invoves all players, is still one order on one players turn.

it looks like all defending players have to be tapped individually - does each tap constitute an order or is the defence the whole order?

Any rider that attacks or defends has to be tapped (turned 90º). Except The player that initiates the attack on their turn only has to tap one rider, and the rest of their team joining in that attack stay untapped.

We're going to persevere and watch the video but the instruction leaflet should probably be re-written at some point, for idiots like me.

The main feedback has been the rules. We've had a fair few questions, and it's mainly about the whole attack/defence mechanism. We're planning our next print run, and will have hopefully a clearer explanation, but also a link straight to the video, which should explain things.

  • That helps, thanks. I'll go through some other stuff that confused us in case that's helpful when you look at the instructions.

    • It says there are four types of cards but only has pictures of three cards underneath: presumably actions and reactions are distinct types indicated by just one picture.
    • We couldn't decide whether to keep the riders in the draw deck. I thought they should stay in, but it didn't make sense to people that riders should be able to join the race halfway through (it seemed unrealistic). Re-reading the rules now it looks like riders can be added and discarded during play.
    • Measuring the size of the gap using draw cards is mind-bending. Once the last draw card is taken, there is no gap. Does this mean there is no break? In which case, when the final kilometre is initiated there can never be a break. In which case why bother creating a break in the first place?
    • Is the sprint the same as the final kilometre? If not, what's the difference?
    • The game is for 2-4 players but the illustration only shows a three player game, which also confused us.
    • 'Whoever last bought a bike goes first' but 'Play starts with the player to the left of the dealer'. Is the player to the left of the dealer the one who last bought a bike? Is the dealer then always the person who is to the right of the person who bought a bike last?

I work next door to LMNH so if you are visiting I would love to have a game with you some time so I can learn it properly and teach my colleagues.

  • I should also say, by the way, that I love the aesthetics of the cards, the card quality, the whole concept. You've done a fantastic job!

  • Cheers man, these are all good points. I'm filming the video tomorrow. But to answer these quickly:

It says there are four types of cards but only has pictures of three cards underneath: presumably actions and reactions are distinct types indicated by just one picture

Will be fixed in the new rules, that is confusing.

We couldn't decide whether to keep the riders in the draw deck. I thought they should stay in, but it didn't make sense to people that riders should be able to join the race halfway through (it seemed unrealistic). Re-reading the rules now it looks like riders can be added and discarded during play.

Think of it as although you only have five riders in play, it's a snapshot of the peloton. So if you get a new rider, it adding from your larger team.

Is the sprint the same as the final kilometre? If not, what's the difference?

The final kilometre is when the last card is drawn (signifying the end of the race), the current player (we'll call Player 1) finished their turn, then each other player gets one more turn to try an change the outcome (remembering the road surface can't be changed). When play returns to Player 1, then The Sprint starts. The Sprint is then the calculation of which player wins by having the highest ability for the current road type, plus any bonuses.

The game is for 2-4 players but the illustration only shows a three player game, which also confused us.

Yup, that could be clearer. You could all play in a long line if you wanted to.

'Whoever last bought a bike goes first' but 'Play starts with the player to the left of the dealer'. Is the player to the left of the dealer the one who last bought a bike? Is the dealer then always the person who is to the right of the person who bought a bike last?

Again, that's confusing, we'll clear that up in the next print run. Anyone can deal, doesn't make any difference, and we thought "Whoever last bought a bike goes first" was a cool and simple way of deciding, though it's not that important.

Maybe Wednesday or Thursday I could pop over for a quick game?

  • Just to second this, thanks @Sharkstar for the feedback. Anyone else who fins anything amiss please do pipe up!

  • Anyone else who fins anything amiss please do pipe up!

    That should be 'finds'.

    (You did ask. :) )

  • It's finally finished! Any other questions I'm happy to help.

    Ben

  • Amazeballs, well done team!!

  • Noice - been waiting for it.

  • Yeah, sorry it took so long!
