  • Gorgeous bike, absolutely love this photo:

Are there more photos of the unpainted frame and details?

Oh, and @Johnnyw75 please keep the homophobia off the forum, I'm very happy to help if you're unable to. PS: Don't reply to this, just let the thread get back on topic as the bike is rad.

  • @T-V

Sure. Here's my #buyerscc stable at present.

  • Wow, his work is something special.

  • Lovely bikes - I was also asking about the other bikes in this picture. Looks like there is about £100k of bike in it!

  • I totally agree. Looking back on the process, I can't imagine having gone with anyone else.

With that being said, there are some fantastic British builders out there.

  • Yeah, I have a Mather ;)

  • The Japanese will spend crazy money on their hobbies, despite a lot of the lads not riding that much (most seem to go with American frame builders).

I feel like the mantra is, be careful with money, unless it's your hobby, in which case, go nuts!

So, whether visible or not, there are the following custom steel offerings in there:

    • Speedvagen x 2
    • Field Cycles x 2
    • Indy Fab x 1
    • Soulcraft x 1
    • Stoemper x 1
  • And quite a bit of Rapha, I see.

  • Those dropouts are actually arousing.

  • I feel like the mantra is, be careful with money, unless it's your hobby, in which case, go nut

    I can live by that.

  • Holy Crap. That is clean.
You actually could have left that unpainted (or clear coated) to show off the fillets, as they are insane. But then again the paint is insane too.

    Also that seattube cluster...

All in all a spectacular bike.

  • Thanks for the kind words, all.

Excuse the crotch shot but here's a TT/stem shot from yesterday's 'proper' shakedown in the Japanese mountains (182km, 1,800m elevation gain).

Quite cold/misty up close to 1,000m up and there's been a tangible change in weather now...autumn's coming.

Also, I think my Garmin 810 is giving up the ghost. Recently it keeps freezing or turning itself off halfway through rides and, unfortunately, I don't expect to hear from Garmin customer service with any positive news.

  • The Field got it's first 'ultra-distance' outing this weekend in a ride from the most Easterly coast of Japan to the most Westerly coast of Japan (Tokyo to Niigata).

This traversing of the entire width of Japan, from the Sea of Japan to the Pacific Ocean, took in 369.5km and 2,084m of elevation gain in 14 and a 1/2 hours (moving time).

Out of interest, my longest ride prior to this was around 190km.

If anyone would be interested, I'd be happy to do a write up somewhere.

  • Needs a write up and moar photos

  • I agree, write up and more photos would be ace!

  • Sounds awesome. Was the bike suitably comfortable?

  • It really was.

However, the Brooks saddle was a little sore towards the end. Perhaps it's too narrow for my arse bones.

Full write up to follow, everyone (I didn't want to draft one if people were going to not care but I'll pop it in the 'Rides' section in due course).

  • +1 for write up - Awesome bike.

  • I imagine most arses get a little sore towards the end of a 370k ride.

  • 2,084m

How on earth did you put on so little crossing Gunma into Niigata? or via Fukushima for that matter.

  • The Arakawa and Tonegawa rivers are relatively flat before you then cut in via Gunma/Nagano and go over Usui Pass.

That's the only large climb really before dropping down through Karuizawa then linking up to the Chikuma River and approaching Iiyama, where you need to climb again before dropping down via the Seki River to the coast.

I'd also have thought there would be more elevation involved before planning it but it worked out differently.

The ride was a take on routes done by others across Japan and I was certainly glad for the lack of elevation given the distance.

  • I have now done a 'ride report' which can be found HERE

Cheers to @Howard @Josh @tv @Thrasher @TM and everyone else for the interest in hearing about it!

  • Beautiful bike and great write up.
Anyone know what the bottle cages are?
