Thanks for the offer but right now I first want to finish it. Thinking of what to do with is for later on. I'll probably swap only for exactly the same frame so I can keep the parts (don't think I'll ever find these pantographed parts in this almost perfect state).
Beside all this: I think your frame is of a later make, no? It has "Moser" dropouts (mine Gipiemme) and the BBshell is different.

Mine is from '79 and has most pantographed componets. Even the headset (couldn't see yours, is it too?).
I do miss the seatpost and straps. Are the pedal cages also pantographed?Mine has a saddle similar to yours now (pantographed, not the one in the pictures) and Monthlery Pro tubulars too (if I recall yours are the same rims)
So yeah, they are of different age, but a few years apart. What's the seatpost size in yours?
They both look great though, don't they? :) I think on Subito.it there's a yellow Moser bottle which will complete the bike perfectly!

Let me know when you're done. Mine looks bigger than yours (notice head tube, also size stamped is 57, whereas your's 54) and I find it a tad too big for me. Also has 120mm stem. And received a few days ago the pantographed quick release (nice!) and the modolo brake hoods in great conditions which I still have to put on.

I'm trying to find out what year mine's from. Must be post '78 because Moser won the Super Prestige Pernod that year and it has a decal referring to that event. Hoped to find a stamp on the rear derailleur (Patent + year) but it only says "Patent" so the groupset is of no big help (except Nuovo Gran Sport was produced from mid seventies to mid eighties).
Headset has no brand on it so that's unknown to me.
Seatpost is a 27.2 mm so this could be an indication of the tubes being Columbus SL. Same goes for the decal indicating "Tretubi": most frames with this decal had the 3 main tubes made from high-level SL (or SP when a large frame) tubing, later tubesets had decals with more specific indications (that's why I first thought yours with Aelle-decal was from later date).
Pedal cages are not pantographed.
I will post photos as soon as the work is done. Hae to get started with the wheels and those really look bad...
And yes, you're right: both are great bikes. ;-)

Btw a friend of mine noted that yours is similar (a lot) to the one F.Moser used on the Paris-Roubaix and the one he uses still now when invited or participating to historical races like Eroica or the new Moserissima.
I think I have the picture of it somewhere, let me find out.

Could be just after 1980. Look at the 81-83 catalogue:

but couldn't find one like yours.

And the one he rode at the event:
Albeit that one was made by De Rosa and has the famous testa piatta fork crown and chromed forks.

The "modello Gran Sport" is exactly the same (except from the colour): Tretubi tubing, Gran SPort groupset, chromed part of the seatstaylug, chromed top of the sprayed fork, Selle Royal saddle, Monthlerey rims...
Thanks!

Regarding the "Tretubi" it only stated that the main three tubes were of a similar tubing, whilst the forks where of different type.
But it doesn't mean it's high or "low" quality. Columbus Aelle is just for different use than SL.Mine's also Tretubi, but it's Tretubi Aelle (26.8mm seatpost). Your's is probably SL.

But different seatpost :)

But yeah, I think that's the model

Thanks for the help anyway!
And the appreciation. :-)

Well got a similar bike and they ride wonderfully. Love that both mine and yours have got so many original components (yours more). Cleaned up, it will look just great!
I'll follow the work and we'll see when you're ready to discuss what to do. I still need to find out if mine is actually too big or it's me not used to its geometries.

Didn't see my post then
-

Wow totally missed! :)
Sorry 'bout that!

• #43
Well, that's me told.

There you say someting: geometry. I can "ride" my pre-90's bikes but I cannot "race" them, I just don't manage to find the good position.
-
• #45
It could be that the geometry of mine makes it a bit more harsh to ride and that I'm not used to it, but I have ridden an racing bike before (more recent, still steel [731OS]), so it shouldn't be that...I'll keep calibrating it as I'm sure I'll find a comfy position at one point.
Will never be as comfy as my Holdsworth though!

What's the size? 54 square?

Indeed.

Started cleaning the wheels today
and look who showed her true colours... Regina Oro!!

Man, those spokes are grimy!
-
• #50
greasy grime hides the lushness most of the time...
I've got a similar one, too big for me. It's here in the Current Projects, search for F.Moser Sceriffo. Swap maybe?
