  • Last year, joining the women's 100 ride with you guys was a revelation for me.
I was so terrified that morning, I had never ridden 100km before, I was so worried to be a boring unable kid. You welcomed me and it all went better-than-fine, appart from the crazy rain apocalypse. I learned a lot in that ride and it is clearly responsible for how I threw myself into road cycling from then on.

Time for a new challenge. I was thinking of riding a slightly upgraded version of the women's 100 this year. Take on 100 miles instead of 100km.
+Cazakstan +kat and +cafewanda have already showed a bit of interest, which is cool.

I'm looking into routes ideas for it:
    NE https://www.strava.com/routes/2253002
    NW https://www.strava.com/routes/2320577

Will keep on digging, and will probably give a try to a route this coming weekend.

But yeah, really keen on making this happen !

  • I'm interested, but work is ramping up in jul again.
I like that it's ride out and back! (despite lon traffic!)

  • Still watching with interest. Can't be definite due to obvious reasons..

  • I'm interested.

Routes look good =) some audax routes could also be worth stealing. I can think of ones that go to the seaside and back but that makes about 200km..

  • Chuck them in, I'm sure it's worth looking into.

  • I've never cycled 100miles before (and my mileage generally ain't what it used to be) so will have a think before I commit myself. It'd deffo have to be gears rather than fixed too as I did 40 miles fixed this weekend and my knees were not happy #old

Am deffo more likely to be keen with a circular route rather than cycle out/train home as the train is always borderline stressfull and what's the point of cycling to the seaside when you can't play the arcades cos everyone is staring at you in your lycra etc etc?

  • Could be interested. I've heard Cambridge is nice to cycle to......

  • Cambridge return would be nice!

  • keen!

  • Damn it, I'm in Canada this year. No epic rainstorm roundel for me :(

I suppose I could hire a BixiBike and do a 100 miles to nowhere on Toronto Islands, but that would get boring pretty damn fast.

  • I just realised that I got my months mixed up, hopefully I will be around in July!

  • Awesome news, @Doctor_Cake !
And awesome stuff everyone else, I'm excited.
Yes to a loop, yes to cambridge/cambridgeshire.

    ᕙ(◉‿◉)ᕗ

  • I know a nice route from Bishops Stortford up to Cambridge, then ride back to London could be around 100 miles? Would need to train out from Liverpool st, but might be less stressful to do the train at the beginning...

I've done almost no riding since last summer though, so not exactly committing to anything...

  • This is sounding great people!

  • Would you have this route as a GPX/TCX file ?
Thinking of trying to recce something out this coming weekend.

  • is this any help? http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2521128

one thought about doing cambridge-london is that cambridge to anywhere south generally involves a gentle climb for about 15 miles... although at least it'll be downhill coming into london.

  • sorry ^that should've been a reply @Ecunard
also it's really easy to miss the left turn onto the farm track just before Wendens Ambo. It's a few hundred metres before you'd pass under the M11, if you pass the sign for Wendens Ambo I think you've also gone too far.
the worst climb is short and sharp and is that there farm track. but the best bit is following the M11 in parallel, overlooking it. there's even a well-placed bench.
    (* edited for M-number error)

  • @Ecunard I'm up for a reccie ride on Saturday!

  • Awesome lets do it!

  • Sweeeeet!

  • are you guys still recce-ing tomorrow?

  • Yes leaving the ice center at 9:30 and this is the route we are trying out:
